2020-08-18, 16:00 PM

I have a Thinkpad P53,

I want to insert an SSD with SATA, it was in my old pc

I open the pc, there is a place that is to be for a SATA hard disk, but there is no SATA attach

How can I solve this problem?

You cant, there are so many other posts and so far Technical Support has been unsupportive, if they even understand.

Hello,

The ThinkPad P53 Hardware Maintenance Manual located at https://download.lenovo.com/pccbbs/mobiles_pdf/tp_p53_hmm_en.pdf explains how to open the unit and replace a SATA HDD or SSD.  Check sections 1010 Bottom Cover and 1020 Storage Drive beginning on Page 73 for instructions.

If your ThinkPad P53 did not come with a SATA drive pre-installed, you may need to purchase a SATA storage kit to get the appropriate cable assembly.  The part number is 02DM497 and it is available from Encompass, Lenovo's spare parts provider, at https://lenovo.encompass.com/item/12513301/Lenovo/02DM497/, and probably other places as well.

The above response is true if you have T1000 or T2000 video.  Models with the RTX3000, RTX4000 or RTX5000 video have 3 M.2 slots and no way to install a 2.5" SATA drive.  The RTX video requires a bigger fan that leaves insufficient space for a SATA drive.
