Re:Lenovo Vantage Crashes on Windows 10 May 2004 Update

2020-10-17, 10:05 AM

for I am seeing this problem now. It does not happen predictably. But happens randomly.

It has happened always If I run memory test from hardware scan from vantage.

I don't have the Enhanced Biometric Security in Security > Virtualization in the BIOS option in bios.

more details at this thread. Any help would be appreciated. Otherwise I would be forced to wipe out windows and go native Ubuntu.

There is no Virtualization menu on my BIOS setup. Do you know how to access this? I have been looking for a solid hour and I cannot find anything. I am unable to work at all with this issue persisting every 5-15 minutes.

This is a very old thread you're replied to, so please be more specific. What problem are you having, that Vantage crashes, that fingerprint doesn't work, constant BSOD after operating for 5-15 minutes while doing what, or what??

Also, you must provide what version of Windows you're running, what machine model/type, what BIOS version. Without knowing even what machine you're referring to how can we help with possible instructions about if/where "Virtualization menu" might be located?

But...

Regarding Lenovo Vantage...

The old (pale blue icon) "Lenovo Vantage" has been withdrawn. This was typically pre-installed on Lenovo machines. But it is now obsolete.

There is a new "Lenovo Commercial Vantage"  (with a new red Lenovo icon) which is the currently supported new version of the product. Click on the "application and deployment guide" URL link on that page, to download the installer ZIP package.

For sure you should deploy the new Commercial Vantage product as it is now the supported version (and compatible with MS's Win10 changes in 21H1, as well as with the new Win11 and 21H2). Since the toolbar icon of the old Vantage is no longer supported by Microsoft, if you want an easy quick way to launch the new Commercial Vantage you simply must "pin to taskbar" for the new red logo item, and manually launch it that way with single-click off of the taskbar. Otherwise you can always just launch it from the Windows Start menu.

NOTE: when you unzip the Commercial Vantage installer package (downloaded from the above URL), there is an "uninstall- Vantage-v8" folder, and inside of it is an UNINSTALL.BAT file that you should "run as administrator" to remove the old Vantage product. Then reboot.

After rebooting, go to the LenovoCommercialVantage_10.2109.5.0_v2 folder and you should "run as administrator" the SETUP-COMMERCIAL-VANTAGE.BAT file to install the new Commercial Vantage product. I'd suggest rebooting.

You can then run Lenovo Commercial Vantage and push the "check for system updates" button in the upper right corner. Install the important updates which are presented. This will ensure that the latest versions of any remaining drivers and software appropriate for your machine.

I would also recommend going into the Battery Settings of Lenovo Commercial Vantage, and activating the "charge threshhold" lower and upper limits. I use 80% as the low limit and 95% as the high limit, on my own P70 and W530 and T495, as well as a P73 and P17 I've configured for friends. These values cause charging to occur whenever the power charger is plugged back in and then only if the current battery charge value is below 80%. Charging will then commence, and continue as long as the charger is still plugged in until the battery charge value reaches 95% at which time charging stops. For any current charge level between 80% and 95%, no charging will occur even with the charger plugged in.

On my P70, the Virtualization menu is under the Security tab.

Note that the mentioned "Enhanced Biometric Security" item is not even available in the P70 BIOS, to set it to "disabled". Older machine.

Re:Lenovo Vantage Crashes on Windows 10 May 2004 Update

My apologies. I am running Windows 10 on all of the machines.

They are all Lenovo ideapad 3 15IL05 Model name 81WE

BIOS: DXCN31WW

I started using these computers recently, so there is a chance that update was included with the long line of updates I had with each of them. It seemed as if the first crash was during the updates, so I wouldn't be surprised. I have no idea what's causing. I've tried many things from different forms, nothing helps. Luckily it's not too frequent for most of the machines, but it is random and it is making my life very difficult.

You've posted in the Thinkpad forum, which is not the right place for your IdeaPad 3 question.

I would suggest re-posting your issue over in the IdeaPad 3xx forum.

This is a surprise. I have Commercial Vantage installed on my P70 without any problem whatsoever. Works just fine. Old "blue" Vantage uninstalled, and new "red" Commercial Vantage installed. The P50 story should be identical to my P70 story.

When you say "new Commercial Vantage does not work on P50, not compatible", do you mean it can't even install?  Or after install malfunctions? What is the symptom?

Have you first UNINSTALLED your existing "blue" old Vantage, and then second INSTALLED the new "red" Commercial Vantage, as your installation method? Or are you trying to install Commercial Vantage while old Vantage is still installed, so that theoretically you would have both and be able to run either? I'm sure you can't have both installed at the same time, as the old Vantage negatively impacts the operation of the new one (I made that mistake myself, originally).

I went to - https://support.lenovo.com/us/en/solutions/hf003321-lenovo-vantage-for-enterprise

entered my serial number and hit enter. This is what I get:

When I went to Lenovo Support, I saw the old Vantage (the blue one)
