Lenovo Workstation

2021-06-16, 15:32 PM

I received a Lenovo workstation from my new company. Currently I have a mouse, keyboard, and one extra monitor plugged in. Everything is working fine for now. my concern is: I was given two chargers, a 170W and 230W. when I plug either into the 230/170W port, only my laptop charges, I cant use any I/O. When I plug my 170 W into the 135/65W port everything works, but i get a slow charging warning on my laptop. and when i plug the 230W into the 135/65W port everything works fine so this is how i am using it for now.

Should I be concerned about how I am currently powering my workstation?

Thanks

Hello John15563254,

Welcome to Lenovo Community
I suggest that you share the machine type model / MTM (ex. 81C70000RK) from the sticker as it would help us detail more about your machine variant.

Hello,

Are you using the unidentified ThinkPad with a dock, such as the Lenovo ThinkPad Thunderbolt 3 Workstation Dock?

If so, the 230W adapter should be plugged into 230W SlimTip port on the dock.  Try plugging the 170W adapter into the other SlimTip port labeled "135W | 65W" (I'm not sure if this will work, since the port specifies a 135W or a 65W adapter, not a 170W one).  Then connect the dock to the ThinkPad using the Lenovo ThinkPad Thunderbolt 3 Workstation Dock Split Cable.  It is the double-headed cable which has both a USB-C and a SlimTip connector at one end.

The laptop should now be able to charge from the dock as well as use its I/O ports.

Regards,
