Lenovo special keyboard properties are partly missing

2021-10-04, 22:20 PM

After re-installing Windows 10 at my ThinkPad P50 many of the special hotkeys as e.g. Fn+4 (go to sleep mode), also Fn + (F7 - F12) etc  do not work, while many other work properly, as for instance  Fn + (F1 - F6), also Fn+Space. Also the last section [Function Keys] in the Keyboard Properties dialog window (as it is shown at this image) is missing at my system, I see the first two sections [Speed] and [Hardware] only.

What should I do to restore this functionality?

Hello leopoldus,

Greetings

Kindly reload the BIOS default settings, be sure to save and exit.
Next step is to update the BIOS, drivers and firmware thru the support site.
Be sure to update the Hotkey Features Integration for Windows 10, it is located under Software and Utilities section.
If problem persists, try the steps from this link.
Update us how it goes.

Regards,
Lorenzo_Lenovo

Hi Lorenzo,

Be sure to update the Hotkey Features Integration for Windows 10, it is located under Software and Utilities section.
If problem persists, try the steps from this link.

I am not sure what is the Hotkey Features Integration for Windows 10, also I don't see where is located Software and Utilities section. Could you be a bit more specific.

Anyway I suppose this is absolutely another problem what I described. The article title under your link is "How to use the function keys without pressing Fn in Windows 8.1/10". Well, my problem is not using function keys  with or without pressing Fn key. As I already mentioned in my first message, my problem is that some (not all!) Lenovo firmware hotkeys simple do not work.

Please pay attention to the fact, that far not all of these hotkeys includes F1-F12 special keys located in the upper row on the keyboard. According to this article there are such hotkeys combinations with regular alphanumeric keys as, say, [Fn + 4] (not Fn+F4!) for sleep mode, [Fn + B]  for Break command, [Fn + K] for Scroll Lock etc. These combinations does not do anything at my notebook. Regarding function keys some of them work, as the first 6 function keys (F1 to F6) in the combination with Fn keys, but some other, it is F7 to F12, do work.

Also I don't have the [Fn and Function keys] section in the keyboard properties dialog window. I suppose the source of the both problems is the same.

Kindly reload the BIOS default settings, be sure to save and exit.
Next step is to update the BIOS, drivers and firmware thru the support site.

I already reviewed and updated BIOIS, but the problem still persists.

Do you mean any specific driver and/or Lenovo firmware, which might be connected to the problem we are discussing?

Hello,

The current version of the Hotkey Features Integration software for the ThinkPad P50 running Windows 10 can be found at the following URL:

NEW URL  https://support.lenovo.com/us/en/downloads/ds120449-hotkey-features-integration-for-windows-10-64-bit-thinkpad

https://pcsupport.lenovo.com/us/en/products/laptops-and-netbooks/thinkpad-p-series-laptops/thinkpad-p50/20en/20encto1ww/pc0e2ryj/downloads/ds120449-hotkey-features-integration-for-windows-10-64-bit-thinkpad

I do not recall if a restart is required after installation, but it might be a good idea to do one, just in case.

Thank you, goretsky

It seems, that the link to Hotkey Features Integration software for the ThinkPad P50 running Windows 10 in your message is broken. I get every time the error message:  The resource is moved or not available at this moment.  Could you please recheck it?

Thanks, Lorenzo

Your link is correct (something was wrong with the link in the previous message). I downloaded and installed this Hotkey Features Integration software for the ThinkPad P50 and restarted the system, no errors occurred. However all those hotkeys combinations with [Fn] key, which had not worked before I installed this firmware, still do not work (as e.g. Fn+4, Fn+K, Fn+B, Fn+F7 etc). Should I enable or configure these hotkeys combinations via some utility?

Yes, that is what I was trying to say. However could you advise anything about the problem I described in my previous message?

Thanks!

Hello,

I have always set the function key behavior through the BIOS.

On a ThinkPad P50, it is located under Config | Keyboard/Mouse.  Try setting Fn Sticky Key to Disabled and F1-F12 as Primary Function to Disabled.  Then press the F10 key to save and exit.
