MS SQL server 2005

2008-10-30, 18:27 PM

Just got my W500 yesterday, and I am planning remove junk wares that I don't need.

It comes with Vista business, couple questions.

1. I noticed that there is MS sql server 2005 installed, what is it used for? can I remove it safely?

2. I am going to re-partition it "C" drive to have another 30GB partition and then install Linux on this 30GB partition. my question is, if in the future for whatever reason I need to run recovery disk, will this recovery operation delete this 30GB partition and restore back to the size of default "C" drive?

thanks for any help!

YEs, if you use the recovery discs they will restore the machine to the EXACT state it came from the factory.  All partitions will be wiped, the factory restore partition will be replaced, and Windows will be reloaded along with whatever other apps were there.

bluemoon,

This is a part of MS Office 2007 that comes as a trial version on most systems.

Regards

One quick clarification on ZPrime's post.....

You can recover your system to factory defaults using the recovery media or the service partition except for MS Office.  Due to licensing agreements, and to prevent users from fraudulently attempting to extend their 30-day trial period, MS Office is not included in the recovery process.

If you purchased a license for this software from Lenovo, you should receive separate MS Office recovery media with your system.  If you purchase a license from Microsoft from the trial version, it is your responsibility to obtain MS Office recovery media from Microsoft.

Regards

Icepick...

"...MS Office is not included in the recovery process"

I would really be interested in some clarification.  This has not been the case on a W700.  I have restored a few times now and it restores the Office 60 day trial every single time.

I would love nothing more than to do a custom restore, however for some reason the option does not exist anywhere in the restore process on Vista Ultimate 64.  See this link...
