My p52 needs 30 sec to finish POST after update to Intel ME 12.0.53.1427

2019-05-24, 21:10 PM

After in ran Lenovo Vantage and it updated the Intel ME Firmware to version 12.0.53.1427

My p52 needs 30 seconds on a cold boot to shot thw lenovo logo, this is absolutely inacceptable.

Please provide a fix.

Also similary like with the error described with an earlier version that caused 3 reboots, in BIOS i dont see any ME version being shown.

Hi DrGeyer.

Thanks for reaching us here in our community forums.

We checked and can see that there's a latest version of the Intel ME, could try to download the latest version using the link below?

Intel Management Engine 12.0 Software for Windows 10 (64-bit) - ThinkPad P52

Re: My p52 needs 30 sec to finish POST after update to Intel ME 12.0.53.1427

Hi Ashley_Lenovo,

The issue is not with windows or the drivers, as it manifests before windows boot.

When turning on the laptop from being completely off it takes 30sec or more between when I press the power button and the red Lenovo logo appears. That is the issue, windows boot manager starts after the logo goes away again.
Since I installed all the critical updates from Lenovo Vantage a week ago the laptops firmware needs much much longer to get done initializing itself and getting ready to boot the operating system.

Also when in enter the BIOS the ME Firmware Version is empty just like users reported with the buggy version 12.0.22.1310 that apparently caused 3 reboots before boot as documented in this very long thread: https://forums.lenovo.com/t5/ThinkPad-P-and-W-Series-Mobile/P52-4K-reboot-three-times-forever-after-Update-Intel-ME-12-0/td-p/4347463

I tryed to apply the solution presented there: https://forums.lenovo.com/t5/ThinkPad-P-and-W-Series-Mobile/P52-4K-reboot-three-times-forever-after-Update-Intel-ME-12-0/m-p/4363412#M78989

but since that's an update on version 12.0.24.1314 and I'm already on 12.0.53.1427 it did not do anything, after the sleep the firmware flashing did not start.

I was spared the ordeal with the 3 reboots issue as until last week I still ran the 12.0.12.1127 version, now I really regret having allowed Lenovo Ventage to install the also buggy update to 12.0.53.1427.

I read in the other thread that it is not possible to downgrade the ME? If that is really true that its really bad the P52 is supposed to be a laptop/workstation and not some Gaming console or iPhone where the manufacture patronizes the user.
I understand of cause that downgrading to a older potentially vulnerable build opens security wholes again but exactly for cases like this now, any professional product should have a downgrade path for the user to be able to when needed roll back to a previous not faulty build of any firmware component.

My configuration:
Hardware:
20MAS1H800, with 64 GB memory, 2 NVME SSD's and a SATA SSD.

Notable bios configuration changes:
Virtualization: Enabled
TPM: Disabled
Boot mode: CSM only
SecureBoot: Disabled
Computrace: Disabled Permanently

Cheers
