Re: New P51 - CPU temps hit 100C

I bought my first P51 in July. After mainboard replacement by lenovo engineer, the laptop had overheating problems.

Lenovo later send me a new P51 and i thought everything is now ok. It was silent and the fans were silent.

Now, two weeks later, the P51 becomes louder and the fans are always on !

The temps have also risen.

So i think i have the same problem ...:(

May I suggest to remove the "SOLVED" status of this topic??

This issue seems far from being fixed. Everybody that experiences this issues seems to say that it reappears.

I agree, I wanted to start a new thread, but this one was in existence so i posted here, This problem is not resolved by any means. Everyone here that has a P51 cannot deny that the overheating issue will manifest itself at some point. Granted, this has not caused any issues or bsd's however, these machines should not be running this hot.

So I'm on the 3rd time changing the heatsink, repasting, etc.. still hits 100C.. at this proint I've given up on trying to get better results.  I have a 3yr onsite warranty.. so.... we'll just see if she makes it that long.  ;)

but if throttles, what is the point of keeping it? it will fit into a defect that should be addressed during warranty. no? maybe I am missing the whole problem here.

@jdrodrig: The warranty should cover the defect, at least it did in my case (threee times now). But the problem is that the repairs don't last long. At first the temps were okay after each repair (75 to 80°C on 100%  with no throttling). But after a few days of use the problem was always back (up to nearly 100°C on 100% use with throttling from 95°C on). Well, not always, because I just got my P51 back from the recent repair and it's still "cool" (and more quiet). Waiting for the heat to come back ...

thanks for the explanation. crazy thought, what if they replace the motherboard with one of the P50 (CPU gains are quite small between these two gens)?
