New ThinkPad P53 Specs announced

2019-07-23, 22:08 PM

Hi All

Lenovo has made available on its website http://psref.lenovo.com/Product/ThinkPad/ThinkPad_P53 the full list of configurable options that the P53 will be available:

On the CPU side:

i5-9400H 4C, 2.5 GHz 4.3 GHz 8MB
i7-9750H 6C, 2.6 GHz 4.5 GHz 12MB
i7-9850H 6C, 2.6 GHz 4.6 GHz 12MB
i9-9880H 8C, 2.3 GHz 4.8 GHz 16MB
Xeon E-2276M 6C, 2.8 GHz 4.7 GHz 12MB

But, one thing I don't understand is why (and this was the same case with the current P52) there was never a configuration available with the Intel® Xeon® E-2186M (8th generation), now with the new specs made available from Lenovo it seems again that Lenovo won't made available a model on the P53 with the Intel® Xeon® E-2286M which is quite disappointing because I am sure many users would like to have the new P53 with the top end Xeon® E-2286M with 8C instead of the Xeon E-2276M 6C.

Can Lenovo confirm if this is going to be the case, no Xeon E-2286M 8C model on the P53.

I'm really thinking to switch to the new Dell Precision 7540 Mobile Workstation which you can configure with the top end Xeon E-2286M CPU and same case is with the HP ZBook 15 G6.

I don't see any touch models so I assume there will be more models added.  You mention 8c vs 6c.  I assume you mean "cores".  2176, 2276, 2186 and 2286 xeons are all 6 core, 12 thread

Hi Rich

You are wrong on the Xeon 2286M, below is the full list from 8 and 9 generation on the Xeon mobile part:

As you can see the new 9 gen Xeon E-2286M has 8 cores and 16 threads, like you said we will see if Lenovo decides along the way to made available a model for the Xeon E-2286M.

Thanks,

You are correct.  I had  looked at a 3rd party site which seems to have the specs wrong

Any news on this? I think that many users would be interested in buying 8 core Xeon machines (ECC RAM is the first think that come to mind) Same for the P73..

Also I don't seem to understand why the i9 CPU is available since the 2 CPUs ( i9-9880H & E-2286M) share most of the specs (aside from 0.10GHz and 0.2GHz in Base and Turbo frequencies)

i9-9880H 8C, 2.3 GHz 4.8 GHz 16MB
Xeon E-2276M 6C, 2.8 GHz 4.7 GHz 12MB

Re: New ThinkPad P53 Specs announced

It is time for me to replace my W540 (i7-4730MX, NVidia K2100M, 32GB RAM).

I like the new P53 specs, but I also like the Dell Precision 7540.

P53:

- Slower Processor:     Xeon  E-2276M 6C

+ Best Graphic card:   NVIDIA Quadro RTX 5000, 16 GB

- And P53 with fastest CPU i9-9880H, you get only the weaker Quadro RTX 4000

Dell Precision 7540 15":

+ Best CPU:                    Xeon E2286M 8C 5Ghz or  i9-9880HK 5Ghz

- Slow  Graphic card:    RTX 3000 6 GB

Can somebody from Lenovo Customer service give out more information:

WIll be somehow the Xeon E2286M available for the P53?

And the E2286M is available for the 17' thinkpad. All CPUs have same TDP,

so why not the E2286M or i9-9880HK   for the 15" P53 (like in Dell's 15" 7540)?

Re: New ThinkPad P53 Specs announced

Just an update:

Since yesterday Dell offers the best available CPU and GPU! [1]

I placed an order for the DELL 15' Precision 7540 laptop ( Xeon E2286M, 128ECCRAM and RTX 5000)

and no feedback from Lenovo when a 8C Xeon comes into thinkpad with RTX 5000.

Dell was more communicative about releasing better GPUs. Laptop dimensions similar to P53.

(Best=best available for mobile)

Dell Precision 7540 15":

+ Best CPU:                    Xeon E2286M 8C 5Ghz or  i9-9880HK 5Ghz

+ Best Graphic card:     RTX 5000 16 GB[1]

+ Replaceble GPU:       I got to know, that the Precision modell is modular.

The GPU is also replacable, someone upgraded his old Precision 7530 with a recent RTX3000.[2]

Fully happy now!
