Re: reinstalling with the older driver 7.5.17.27 works for me

@jaddison

When your system runs satisfactionallly, I wouldn´t upgrade anything.

And if the touchpads in W and T are the same, the solution is possible on T´s, also.

Hi Agotthelf,

When a system doesn't run satisfactionally with the default pre-installed drivers, then it's an issue that needs to be addressed.  Plain and simple.  If not from a support-related concern, then from a market-visibility point of view.  It just doesn't look good.  Of course, it might just be a small number of units that are exhibiting these symptoms, but then you'd think it was a hardware issue - not driver-related.

Of course, I agree that if the touchpads are the same between the W500 and T400, then the *workaround* should apply.  I still would not call it a solution though.  If you want to call it a solution, then it's a 'band-aid' solution at best.

It's just another point of view.  Anyhow, I'm hoping that I do not have continued issues with my next W500...

Thanks,

J

I haven't had a problem lately but I switched off Integrated graphics to play a game and my lock ups are back again.. I had two since yesterday.

I'm on Bios 1.9 and all the drivers are up to date from the update tool.

I just switched back ot the integrated graphics.. I'll play around more when I don't have work to do.

I don't think this is a driver problem

I already had two w500 now, touchpad and trackpoint worked well on the first one, but I have to return it because of graphic card defect. the second, the touchpad and the trackpoint will stop working at the same time. so I believe it is  mother board problem.

and I see someone mentioned the different touchpad performance with integrated graphic card switched on and off. I never had chance to try that.

Hello,

we might need some more details, to narrowing the problem to hard- or software failures.

What models or model types ideally are affected:
What OS:
What BIOS:
What applications (TVTs) if applicable, especially:
Graphics Driver:
Ultranav driver version:
Summary of the observed conditions - "what happens, when?"

Please also post back if the problem is fixed by sending it to depot.

I tried to do a dump from the system information but it is way more then the 20,000 characters allowed for a post, it's only 861kb, I wish there was a application that could allow us to upload that Vista System Information Dump dump so we can compair what is going on with all our computers.

I'm sure we have some good programmers here I don't have enough time to do it or I'd make a MySQL database for comparision.

Re: reinstalling with the older driver 7.5.17.27 works for me

I sent my laptop back to get this problem fixed. they changed my palm rest and keyboard, the problem is still there.

and today I got my system board changed the problem is still there.

and my first w500 didn't have this problem, and at that time, the old bios and all the driver still take v5700 as 3650

so I am wondering whether this is a bios (or driver) update problem

what should I do?

i do not want to return this one. and definitely don't want to have touchpad which doesn't work.

I just sent back my T400 with the problem yesterday. I'll update everyone when I get it back. I really can't keep sending off my only laptop, so I hope I have more luck than the rest of you in getting it fixed correctly the first time.

Hi everyone,

I am the original poster and I just wanted to let you know that it was a hardware defect that caused it, as the new system that I was delivered yesterday functions correctly.

It sounds like replacing the unit is the only true fix for it.  THE solution.

Thanks for the feedback,

J
