No Display on USB-C Monitor During Post

2020-08-28, 16:51 PM

I have an external monitor, BenQ SW 321C, attached to my P1 Gen 2, BIOS 1.34, via USB-C. Display works fine once Windows has booted however nothing during POST which makes changing BIOS settings a bit of pain or installing Windows. I have poked around in BIOS settings and can't really see anything out of the ordinary. Googling didn't leave me with much so asking the forum to see if anyone else has run into this and figured out a fix.

What happens if you disconnect the monitor? Does the built-in display work? I would think this would be a satisfactory work-around for the few times one has to mess with BIOS setting or reinstall Windows.

Does your screen works if you disconnect your monitor. If this happens then try to change BIOS Settings or reinstall your windows.

It most certainly does. My PC, like the OP's P1 Gen 2, is a notebook. It has a built-in LCD screen that works even when my external monitor is disconnected.

The laptop display works just fine during post. I have the laptop closed on a stand tucked behind the monitor, so every time I need to do something during post, for instance, change BIOS, upgrade, BIOS, select Boot PE, I have to reach around the monitor, take the laptop off the stand, unplug the external monitor and do everything and then move it back to its spot. I just don't understand why USB-C external monitor won't work during POST.
