Numeric keypad ??

2008-10-14, 18:12 PM

I am looking for a w500 and on the features web page came across this:

The famous ThinkPad keyboard is renowned for its full array of keys and excellent feel. The ThinkPad W700 adds a 10-key numeric keypad with additional data entry options.

This implies the W500 does not have a numeric keypad, nor does it come with an option for one (other than an external usb connected one). Is that correct? That would be a dissapointment as the budget of this system would not allow for a W700.

As a secondary queston: the T61 has a numeric keypad in the middle of the keyboard turned on and off by the numlock key. Does the W500 work like that as well?

there is simply no space in the normal 14.1 and 15.4 thinkpads to fit in a numeric pad without limiting the individual key, which is not something you want. widescreen 17 inch screen offers alot of space real estate to fit in a dedicated numeric pads.... i have yet seen a keyboard that don't support a key activated numeric keyboard on the normal keyboard.... so W500 does have the user activated numeric pad that you are looking for, it is not perfect but better than nothing if you get use to it.
