Re: P-series issue: trackpad shedding particulates

Hello,

If you lightly touch a piece of scotch (aka cello) tape to the trackpad and then remove it, does anything appear on the tape?

By the way, I actually recall reading about a similar case, once:  The person had a metabolic condition (acidosis? alkolosis?) that changed the pH value of their body's chemistry enough that their skin's oil was eroding the trackpad.

Regards,

Re: P-series issue: trackpad shedding particulates

This is a very clever idea. I tried it, and found two particles on the tape; they are still too small to photograph, but I may be able to focus on the tape's contour instead, as they create small bumps on the back of the tape.

My skin is (in general) not oily at all; i haven't noticed any problems with any other devices. (Also, just in case, based on your suggestion, I tested with pH strips and found no change from neutral.)

So, the tape shows that there are small particules on the trackpad. This was a great suggestion.

Hello,

Could it be something in the environment (dust or other form of particulate matter) being attracted to the trackpad?

Re: P-series issue: trackpad shedding particulates

Okay so I am having the same issue. The touchpad of my P70 is is not smooth and it is wearing down my fingerprints. I'd describe the surface as micro-abrasive. So the particles you are seeing are more than likely your own fingerprints being sanded down by the touchpad coating that is abrasive.

Have you asked for a warranty resolution to this? Do they have  a newer version of this touchpad with a glasslike surface that is non-abrasive and does not eat your fingerprints? It is 2016. Why can;t they make a Windows touchpad that is as smooth as glass.

This is the related thread I posted earlier:

Mine has stopped shedding grit. Took it about a month. I don't often use it as I prefer the touch-point, but the grit was something that made me look closely at the pad whenever it happened. I never discovered the source but it's obviously gone away, and the pad works just fine.

Interesting. This could make sense, that the particulates might be coming from our fingers instead of from the trackpad. That's true that the trackpad has a rather "sharp" texture.

The particulates I'm getting are rather on the sharper and gritty side, though (like tiny grains of crystals), so my first inclination is that it's coming off the trackpad itself.

I haven't asked Lenovo for an exchange in case of a defetcive trackpad, because all 3 Pxx I've tried have had the exact same trackpad issue. I seriously doubt it's just a one-off unit error.
