P1 20MD Camera Lag

2020-12-16, 16:15 PM

I have a P1 20MD when on a video call using Zoom or Google Video calling my camera is lagging very badly. I have reinstalled the driver for the camera, installed additional ram into the machine, my internet connection runs over 700 Mbps and others on the same network have no issues on video calls. I have even looked in the settings in Vantage and while not on a call at all, the video is lagging in the Vantage camera preview screen. Anybody have any idea what the issue could be? Thank you!

Same exact issue, specially in MS Teams. Not related to network and have tried with other laptops. I was hoping this Thinkpad P1 Gen 1 would be fast and easy to work with but **bleep** it's so so bad with the camera. Deciding to either ditch it or get an external cameral.

Not yet, was hoping to find a solution. It's not ideal to have a camera but then be forced to use an external camera, specially with the number of meetings we go through and move between rooms carrying an external camera is just a hassle. Have you?

I have tried an external camera, and it does seems to solve the problem, just a pain when there is a camera on the laptop, I would prefer a fix as well.

I resolved the issue!

Here's what I did,

1- update to the latest BIOS

2- From device manager, UNINSTALL the Camera (not disable, not remove)

3- reinstall the camera and restart the laptop

I am not sure if the BIOS update is necessary, it makes more sense to do step 2 and 3 if it didn't work then do step 1.

Hope you find this useful.

I am not confident in this being the fix, I have done this several times, but I am going to say that my camera has been been lagging after doing it this time. Was there a driver update recently?

Tried external camera, issue still persist, making me think this is an issue with USB C or NVIDIA rather than the camera itself.

Dear customers

Sorry for the camera trouble.

Unfortunately I cannot duplicate the issue with my P1 Gen 1 machine.

Do you attach any peropheral devices other than AC or external camera?

Can you provide me:

- Windows 10 OS Build version (Press Windows button + R and type “winver”)

- Intel and Nvidia Video driver version (Press Windows button + X and select “Device Manager”.  Find Intel and Nvidia driver under Display adapters.  The driver version is at Driver tab)

- In Device Manager, Camera driver version (Driver tab) and HWID (Details tab then select Hardware Ids in Property)

Also does this issue still persists if you swith Graphics mode in BIOS from "Hybrid Graphics" to "Discrete Graphics"?

You can switch the mode from BIOS Setup menu -> Config -> Display -> Graphic Device.

(To enter BIOS Setup menu, Power on the system. Press F1 at the Lenovo logo)
