P1 3rd gen not compatible with Corsair Vengeance memory?

2020-10-11, 3:50 AM

New P1 gen3

Processor: Version: Intel(R) Core(TM) i7-10875H CPU @ 2.30GHz

It shipped with a 16G Samsung DIMM, which is actually a 3200 MT/s part, but of course it is running at 2933 MT/s.

I tried installing two 32G Corsair Vengeance 2933 MT/s modules, and the machine will not boot; it will not even show the red Lenovo splash, and will not enter the setup screen or the diagnostic screen. I even replaced the original module, switched the boot mode to "Diagnostics", and still nothing happens. The screen is black (not backlight).

When powered on, the ESC, F1, F4, and CAPS LOCK LEDs all light up momentarily.

I tested the Corsair modules on other machines (a NUC, and a Dell laptop), and they work fine.

I also tried a pair of 32G Samsung 2666 MT/s modules, and those worked, at the slower speed.

I have never, ever had problems with Corsair memory before. Any ideas?

This is on a par with "are you sure it's plugged in?" and no offense intended.  Did you give it 5 or 10 minutes?  First boot on a ThinkPad with upgraded RAM can take a while.  It will be normal after that.

Not saying that's what is wrong but it needs to be ruled out.

No offense taken. Yes, it's plugged in. It's even switched on :)

I suspected it might be something like that, but after about two hours, I gave up.

I even upgraded the BIOS to: Version: N2VET22W (1.07 )  Release Date: 09/09/2020

Thanks,

Take it out and reseat it.  First. I don't doubt your post.  I will add that Corsair Vengeance is expensive, but I like it for my machines.  It is the one type of memory with which I have never had a problem related to compatibility

Already did that, also cleaned the contacts of both the modules and the sockets with isopropanol using a static-dissipating cleaning stick. No go.
