Re: P1 Gen 2 - Small dots on OLED screen

2020-01-30, 7:42 AM

Update for me is that they have decided to send out a techenician to swap the panel. Guess they'll need to do this in order to eventually come to the conlusion like others have done, they're the ones losing out on money.... One positive thing is that several have been offered to swap of computer or return of money. There's hope that I can put my money elsewhere example XPS 15.

I would believe that the OLED panel replacement will be using the same P/N as the one in your system. Until either the pitch of the grid for the touchscreen matrix can be made compatible with the dot pitch of the OLED panel, the same artifacts will be present. I'm not truly understanding why panels are being swapped out as though there was a manufacturing defect. The issue is totally a product design issue whereby product development assumed that only very few people would notice the dots/lines problem. It certainly could have been avoided IMO.

If only they would actually read this forum. The information would be so smooth between users and the support. Hire few guys to communicate with users here and report to the support. Directly. I know that here are few admins and moderators but it is clearly stated they aren't communicating with the support. Lenovo would save lots of money if customers wouldn't need too call or make a ticket individually and everytime some 3rd party technician comes to fix the issue without knowing it would be a complete waste of everybody's time and resources.

Now if here would be a guy working for Lenovo and he would have been read this topic example and he would be fully aware of the situation and communicate with the support and they would further investigate the issue. Then the support could give a statement that they are aware of this (and all the other issues, missing keystrokes ex.) and temporarily remove the display so people aren't able to buy it and call a global call-back, admit that you made a mistake, give some value for your customers, fix the issue once and for all, leave a happy customer and live on it.

Can we please keep this conversation at a constructive level? Throwing accusations around won't help anyone.

Re: P1 Gen 2 - Small dots on OLED screen

This was immediately noticeable when taking the laptop out of the box, as others indicated. The whole screen was covered in dots which could be seen at normal viewing distances without my vision correction. Two other people also confirmed the visibility of the pattern on the display. It was most noticeable on white backgrounds and against solid colors. I had assumed the artifacting on the screen was from the touch layer and was shocked that the product would be sold in such a state. I didn't see that others had already been posting about the flaw on the forums until weeks afterwards, more or less confirming that the problem was the touch layer. Based on the feedback here, I don't believe this to be a manufacturing defect but solely a design flaw. I have no idea how they would sell a premium laptop with the highest configurable display in such a state. What's funny is that like others, I didn't want the touch screen in the first place. I assumed it was something sold with the touch screen layer by Samsung and that to have an OLED I would have to put up with a touch screen, but that is not the case. It's a shame because other than the screen, I was quite happy with the quality and performance of the laptop. I'm not sure if I should wait until they have a model without the touch layer, which could be as late as next year, or purchase the same laptop with the IPS display. I returned my P1 for a full refund and would hope others did the same.

Re: P1 Gen 2 - Small dots on OLED screen

I just have to make another post seeing I haven't had any luck getting this sorted.

One thing I can't really understand is that there is no mention what so ever in any review with the OLED+Touch display. If I were to review this unit there would be a big questionmark regarding the display...

Is there anyone who have had any luck with getting ths sorted through panel replacement or swap of the whole computer?

Also having to dig really deep in order to find anything regarding other laptops suffering from the same problem...Just the other day I saw a fresh review of the HP Spectre x360 4k OLED/Touch...and of course there was very much praise for the display..

Re: P1 Gen 2 - Small dots on OLED screen

P1 Gen2 user, with the touch screen.  It is so bad to the point where I get nauseus looking at the screen.  The pattern is nuts.  Maybe 1-2 hours working on it, I have a headache.  I've shown some coworkers, probably 60% see the issue, 40% don't.

Has anyone gotten anywhere in fixing this?

I was asked if I would send my entire laptop in for engineering to look at.  I declined as they didn't have a 'loaner' to offer.  Though I should try again.  They had offered to replace my entire computer with a different one so...  you'd think they could just replace it with the same thing if they want my exact copy back.  Anyways, supposedly engineering is looking into it.  I have not heard any indication anywhere that there's a fix.

Re: P1 Gen 2 - Small dots on OLED screen

2020-02-19, 18:33 PM

My first P53 arrived January 3, 2020 from China and had the same mesh/dots on the touchscreen OLED monitor of my laptop.  It seemed to dissipate over the first two weeks, but not entirely disappear.  I received a replacement P53 with touchscreen OLED in late January 2020 from North Carolina.  Initially, screen appeared better than initial view of first P53, but still a faint mesh/dots overlay.

At the moment, I'm debating on giving up and asking for full refund. I have the two-year premier warranty, but not optimistic this will be fixed or get the attention it deserves to achieve a solution. I like all other aspects of the P53 except this screen issue and the Lenovo Active Pen 2 (separate issue of stalling/disconnecting while inking).  Sure would like some indication this is a concern for Lenovo and they plan to remedy it for us.
