The $300 charge is from Lenovo Service center. I got call today said it is my fault, so I told them don't repair it and send me back the machine.

I have the same crack and I almost always have it docked.

Thats a lot of money for cheap plastic.

Unbelievable, it looks exactly the same of mine crack. I got in touch with Lenovo stuff throgh facebook page. They told me to send them my serial number and then they will come back to me with a solution after checking if it is under "warranty".Tonight I'm sending them my serial number. Please let me updated if you have any news from them. It looks like we are having the same problem in a lot of customers. Lenovo has to solve this problem and we are not gonna pay for this. Regards

Or, you know, you could read through this Whole thread and see that one staff member is collecting info and providing updates. They have also said, repeatedly, that because there is no acknowledged problem (or fix) for the support people to reference that there's no real option but for them to deny warranty. This is an "in progress" thing. The *Best* option is to contact the Lenovo person who's Actually doing something about this. Me, since there's no fix (a replacement will just crack again, it's not a materials issue else EVERYONE would have the problem, it's a combination of materials and assembly that's unique), I'm just going to keep watch. When there is a fix, or if they claim there's no problem, then I'll move ahead. No sense in getting all wound up when they're working through the process.... in the mean time the more people calmly Help point out the problem with their examples, the better.

My P50 is sitting all the time on my desk. I'm not moving it anywhere. It is 3 months old.

I'll keep watching on this since it looks like problem is unsolved.

I think there is a problem in quality of used materials - cheap recyclated plastic . I have 2pcs broken bezels during 2month - with using notebook in docking station 95% of time. Lenovo should start using quailty materials instead of recycled plastics, particularly in this category where the laptop standing € 3,500 - we can forget the MIL-SPEC.

In response to customer reports of unexpected cracking on the keyboard bezel or palmrest on ThinkPad P50 and ThinkPad P70 Mobile Workstation systems, Lenovo has released a solution.

If your system has not been dropped, or otherwise not damaged due to misuse, please contact Lenovo Service to receive assistance under warranty and reference confidential Service TIP# SF17-T0018/ HT503602. Please note that palmrest assemblies are not a Customer Replaceable Unit (CRU) part, so the solution requires the system to be serviced by Lenovo, a Lenovo Partner or Lenovo Retailer.

Thank you for your patience while Lenovo made a solution available.

Sincerely,

0 person found this solution to be helpful.

This helped me too

While my bezel hasn't cracked (yet), this is great news. Many thanks Amy!

Two questions:

1) Will the replacement bezel be an updated part that will not crack in the future?

2) Will this solution apply beyond the normal warranty period of each machine, i.e. for the life of the machine or at least a number of years beyond the initial warranty?  A flawed part is a flawed part, whether it fails early or late in the life of the machine.
