I wonder why the approach is to sell this as an "option kit" rather than a CRU service kit! The later would require no additional certifications as the parts are already described as  level 3 parts within the main machine assembly. This would be no different than supplying a misc. parts kit (screws, screw covers, etc) through the service organization. Certainly, the delivery path would be both defined and established. I suspect such a kit has to be already defined for field service support.

Valid point.  I would think one of two possibilities exist:

   - FRU kit with all the cables in question

   - Individual FRUs set up for each cable

Best I can do is ask the question.  The Thinkpad structure of things is significantly different than what we normally do on ThinkStation, so finding the info is a bit more challenging.

Do you have a ballpark time frame when this kit will be available for purchase?

Lenovo Parts are quoting 45 days to ship if I were to order the P/N 00UR836 cable through them.

What are they up to with this?!

This is just crazy - I bought the P50 with just the nvm-e option in it, and planned to fit my already purchased 1TB 2,5" SSD into it when I received it. But then they go and put some propreitary connector on the board for this? It's not like there isn't plenty of room for the original standard connector - they simply choose not to? Shame on you Lenovo.

Anyways, thanks to this thread I found the part for the cable I need (why is this not included in a laptop to $2500 ?! ) and tried to order it. It is impossible to find - well, not entirely true, my supplier did manage to find a REFURBISHED one for a little over $100.... Really Lenovo?

Feels like an Apple-like ploy to drag as much money as possible out from your customers. If you choose to design something that is non-standard, you better be providing the cables for it in the box. Seriously :-(

Re: P50 Hard disk drive cable

I just got all parts (00UR835, 00UR836 and the second M.2 tray) delivered yesterday. Since IBM upped the price to about 100 € shortly after namyacs's post, that was not a reasonable option, but I ordered at a site called lapstars, who offered it for 10 € and claimed to ship within two weeks, but then in fact sent a shipping notification on the same day! They've since changed the price to 30 €, though, and now quote up to 30 days, so I have no idea whether my experience is repeatable.

When phoning ok1, the other shop I'd ordered parts from, that I wouldn't need the 00UR835 anymore, they told me that they actually had the other parts in stock and sent them right away.

Installing a 2.5" SSD in the right bay was no problem with some improvisation, I haven't tried out the other parts yet.

Overall I'm really disappointed with Lenovo. As mentioned by others, a laptop in the ~3 k€ price range really ought to have these parts included in the box. Offering them at a reasonable price with good availability would already be suboptimal. Having to wait 40 days from delivery of the notebook to actually being able to use it for its intended purpose is just unacceptable.

Agreed. I have the same issues with the new P50 I recently purchased. I've had it now for a few months, and  I'm trying to locate this OUR835/OUR836 part. Why they didn't just include these cables with the $4k CDN laptop is discraceful on Lenovo. It's a great laptop, but very limited with a single 500GB SSD drive!

They weren't able to help with the sales/service department either, if you can point and click on the website to select the option you're good (with outrageous pricing) for options, other than that their sales/service departments are completely useless.  Just want a small cable that shouldn't cost anymore than $10 or should have just come with the laptop! rediculous. I'll need to consider DELL or another brand for future company standards, not too happy about how inconvenient they have made this. If I wanted to deal with limited hardware options I would have bought a MAC.

Lenovo should just extend everyone's warranties in exchange for the hassles.

I don't need extended warranty ,  I just need the part to make the computer useful. Without the 2nd drive, this laptop sucks.

I'm with you. I ended up using the 2nd m.2 tray for my 2nd drive, instead of the 2.5" 1TB SSD I had, which personally for me - works for now since I don't need to have more than 1 TB on this system for a bit longer. Later, I do plan on installing the tray/cable for the HDD bay. However, I bought this going into it with the same plan as you.

It would be nice, if yes, Lenovo provided the part + an extended warranty? Why, well, becuase as you said, they should of included these parts ! Can't agree more, and, they should add in the warranty which helps with resell value later one for when your ready to "hand-er down." Who say's say's Lenovo can't let us have some cake and eat it too at this point? Worst they can say is, "no - we don't love our paying customers - buzz off?" Right?
