P50: How do you turn off the screen/display?

2017-02-18, 15:25 PM

How do you turn off the screen/display on a P50 manually (not waiting for the screen off timer) but not putting the machine to sleep, similar to a Fn+F3 toggle on other Thinkpad models?

Other laptops would have a toggle to turn the screen backlight on and off, while others will turn off the LCD display completely. Is this possible natively on the P50?

Thank you.

In Win 10 under power options, you have some choices that can deal with this.  I set the "sleep button" (Fn-4) to turn off the display, since closing the lid will put the machine into sleep.

Thanks, but I do not want to put my machine to sleep -- just turn off the screen when I need to without waiting for the screen off timer.

Hi there,

please allow me to step into this relatively old thread.

The solution : hotkey to turn off the display..

Your display, will it remain turned off?

Does your laptop go into sleep mode then, after a while?

I am facing the same problem, but have not found a solution yet.

see: P52 - How to turn off the display, without.. the laptop going into sleep-mode?

My display keeps on turning on again after a few minutes.

It is not the power / sleep setting. There I have set the monitor to turn off after 30 minutes or 1 hour (battery/plugged in).

Even using a number of 3rd party tools does not help, display turns off, but is turned on again a bit later.

Hey there.

On pressing the hotkey, screen turns off (backlight and LCD) until an external input is sensed by the laptop (mouse, trackpad, pointer, or keyboard), then the screen turns back on.

If left undisturbed (with the screen off), it stays off until the sleep timer kicks in -- the laptop then goes to sleep without the screen turning on.

If a mouse is connected, sometimes, bumps on the table where the mouse is at will cause the screen to turn on.
