P50 Laptop overheats when kept flat on table top

2019-05-09, 20:05 PM

P50 laptop started to overheat in last weeks. It shutsdown when overheats.

I place laptop on my desk flat.

I am also connecting external 3 monitors.

When I keep the laptop on my pillow/lap top, it doesn't heat up.

Please advise what I need to do prevent overheating.

Hi Nagz!

Welcome to the community forums.

Could you try to use a third party software to monitor the temperature of your laptop using this https://openhardwaremonitor.org/ - Check also if the difference of the fan activity while on the flat desk and while on the top of the pillow?

Let us know the result.

Hi,
Please find below the log from the tool. The log from the tool is attached to this thread.

The max temperature of cpu reached 98 degree celcious. It did not shut down.

My bad, in above chat, I did not mention that I connect 3 monitors to this laptop. 2 using the ports (HDMI and Display port) that came with the OEM laptop and third monitor using type c USB adopter.

The display adopters are as below :

Intel(R) HD Graphics P530.

NVIDIA Quadro M2000M

Obviously when I put the laptop on the pillow, these gets disconnected... Room temperature is below 25-26 degree celcious.
