Re: P50 Win 10 Pro -- Fingerprint stopped working

2017-03-14, 14:20 PM

Ok, so it happened again. when i view it in device manager I see the generic error:

Windows has stopped this device because it has reported problems. (Code 43) - and a yellow exclamation mark. Disabling and Enabling the device does solve the issue instead of a reboot.

Are there any other logs available for me to provide? I can't find anything easily.

I need to check with Synaptics how to debug this further.  Let me get back to you later.

it looks like the issue occurs when the machine sleeps - i lose the fingerprint scanner.

Hi AlphaDog,

Could you check your P50 Win10 OS ID? Is it 14393(RS1) or 10586(TH2)?
I have one P50 with Win10 RS1 OS and Fingerprint driver 5.1.321.26 in use. And I often do hibernate or sleep of it but I didn't encounter fingerprint failure issue yet. Of course I will monitor my machine and meanwhile hope to help you on this issue, if possible.

Hi Ben,

My P50 ThinkPad(Win10 RS1) is running well with up to date Fingerprint driver "5.1.321.26" which was released on 2017/2/14.
I recommend you try the newest fingerprint driver from Lenovo Web download link:

http://pcsupport.lenovo.com/us/en/downloads/DS120491

Good luck.

I have OS "14393.953".

Anyway I don't think checking OS update will help this issue. We may wait for the feedback from Lenovo.

Re: P50 Win 10 Pro -- Fingerprint stopped working

I have had a ThinkPad P50 for close to two years. The fingerprint scanner works - when it wants to.

I have kept the PC at WIn7 due to endless hitches and glitches and perpetual advertising bombardment with other PC's I mistakenly loaded Win 10 onto.
I always keep this P50 fully updated with probably 10 BIOS updates since I bought this thing and countless other windows and solution center updates.

The fingerprint scanner? It has always been the same. Very unreliable. I never have problems with the one on my iphone or Android but with this one it works when it wants to. It may function flawelessly for a 12 logins then suddenly it requires many tries or even though I just started the PC from cold shutdown - it will fail to read any of my logged fingerprints and I have to reboot the PC and try again. Maybe it will work.

I suspect the hardware for the print reader is just no good. Getting the print reader replaced? Forget it. Although I paid for extended warranty service getting anything resembling service for this PC requires extended jumping through hoops and inconveniencing my already overly busy schedule
