P50 laptop not properly seeing my Samsung CRG9 monitor

2020-08-07, 18:43 PM

I just got a Samsung CRG9 49" monitor, and I'm not able to access the full 5120x1440 resolution.  The specs I found online for the Nvidia M2000M GPU say that it can handle 3840x2160, so I expected that it would work, but the highest resolutions I have available are 3840x1080 and 2560x1440, the latter of which only uses the middle half of the monitor.  I expected that the higher resolutions would become available when I lowered the refresh rate to 60Hz, but that did not help.

One thing I found that may be relevant is that, although I've installed the newest drivers from the Samsung site, I found the following on the Events tab of the "CRG9_C49RG9x (DP) Properties" window:

Hey, I recently went through this issue too with the Samsung Odyssey G9 with the P50 with Nvidia Quadro m2000m

The other person is correct - A single connection can't support its resolution - however it CAN drive 2  2560x1440 monitors and the G9 does allow for Picture by Picture

in the monitor's in-screen menu -> PIP/BIP->ON and set it to 50/50

Then you can hook an HDMI and the miniDisplayPort up (or if you have the dock 2 DisplayPorts, or whatever floats your boat)

Then you can use the Nvidia control panel to merge the displays into the massive ultra wide
Nvidia Control Panel -> Workstation -> Set up Mosaic

And then BAM - full 5120x1440 resolution (you will only have 60hz though)

Good luck!

Thanks for the replies!  In the end, I was able to gain full use of the monitor by switching to an HDMI connection.  Still don't know why DisplayPort wouldn't work, but I don't need a high refresh rate for my work stuff anyway, so this will do the job.
