P50 sound not working

2018-09-01, 6:11 AM

Hey folks,

Lenovo P50, Win 7

Last week the Lenovo Solution Center informed me of a critical update. After completing the update, my sound isn't working and the mic button seems to be malfunctioning as well. The orange light on the mute button is permenently on, pressing it doesn't change anything, and the mic mute buttom is permenantly off, pressing it does nothing. I tried disabling/enabling the driver in Device Manager and I also tried reinstalling the sound driver but no luck. Not quite sure what to do. Any suggestions?

Thanks

I faced this issue last week; I managed to fix it by just re-installing the driver for the hotkeys and audio. Just try to re-install the drivers. If the issue still exists try to download the older version of the driver you could find it on Lenovo website.

If your recent "critical" updates included updating Lenovo Power Management Driver, there's a good chance this is the culprit.  It has been reported many times over the past week or two as being responsible for many seemingly unrelated malfunctions and anomalies.

This issue is discussed here:  https://forums.lenovo.com/t5/ThinkPad-T400-T500-and-newer-T/Latest-Power-Management-Driver-Conflicts...

Lenovo engineering has confirmed that it seems to be a problem with the latest version of Power Management Driver. It has unintended harmful consequences with assorted seemingly unrelated functionality, both in Win10 and Win7, on multiple different laptops.

To avoid the problem, follow these steps to roll back the defective 1.67.14.05 Power Management Driver to the previous problem-free 1.67.14.04:

:

1.  Open Device Manager

2.  Expand "System Devices" category

3.  Double-click on "Lenovo PM Device"

4.  Click on "Driver" tab, and then click on the "Roll Back Driver" button.

I believe version 1.67.14.4 is OK, but 1.67.14.5 is bad.  Lenovo will re-issue a corrected Power Management Driver when the unfortunate issue with the original 1.67.14.5 has been chased down and resolved.

This helped me too

Hi Lenovohoho,

Kindly provide more information of the updates for us to better assist you. Is it after Windows Update? or Lenovo System Update or Lenovo Vantage?

For Keyboard Functions, you may need to download and install the Hotkey Integration.

Rolling back the Lenovo PM Device driver worked, thank you very much!

Peter-

It was one of the Lenovo update notifications. Im not quite sure which Lenovo program prompted the message, but I was receiving a pop-up a couple times a week telling me Lenovo had critical updates for my computer.

Hi!

I have the exact same issue as the previous user had! However, the "roll back driver" option is not active and greyed out. The current version of my PM driver is 1.67.16.42.

Anyone know how I can resolve this?

regards

Some hours of non-helpful system troubleshooting and several non-helpful forums, I finally found that, as stated above, the hotkeys were the issue. This link solved the problem for me: https://support.lenovo.com/sg/en/downloads/ds031814

Re:P50 sound not working

This was a very old thread (original problem back in 2018).  At the time it seemed to be the Power Management Driver which was relevant, and rolling back to the previous version (still available at that time) was the solution.

If as later observed the Hotkey Features Integration utility was also relevant, or perhaps even the "current" solution to a similar problem showing up more recently, that's fine. But the page you linked to for the download of that Hotkey Features software is very old. Version 9.1.0.3, dated 2010-10-31.  Is that truly what you had to install, in order to resolve a current "sound not working" in your P50??

The latest version (9.2.0.1, dated 2020-06-18) of Hotkey Features Integration for the P50 can be found from this Lenovo download site:

Is this latest version not what you truly should install, if you want the latest Hotkey Features Integration? Or are you saying that you actually had to go back to an older version of this software in order to resolve your "no sound on P50" issue because with this latest 9.2.0.1 installed you had no sound, until you went back to the older 9.1.0.3?

Are you also running the latest Power Management Driver for the P50?

Please clarify with details, so that someone else reading this thread (which is several years old when recently re-opened) can understand what the problem actually was, and what the "solution" really was.

Exactly what driver versions do you currently have installed, for the presumably relevant hardware/software items: (a) Hotkey Features Integration, (b) Audio, (c) Power Management? You already stated you had 1.67.16.42 of Power Management Driver installed, which is indeed the current version for the P50.
