P50s & m.2 SSD slots?

2016-02-28, 17:25 PM

I'm wondering how to add a 2nd storage drive on the P50s (or even the T560).

I looked in the T560/P50s Hardware Maintenance Manual, seems neither has a dedicated m.2 slot (unlike the prior T550/W550s, which had both a dedicated m.2 SSD slot and a shared WWAN/SSD m.2 slot).  Will a dedicated m.2 SSD slot be added later, or is it gone in the new models?

Is the WWAN slot on the P50s keyed to accept an m.2 SATA SSD, like the new T460 model is?

Officially, only one storage is supported on P50s/T560.  Unofficially, you may be able to use the WWAN slot for storage but no guarantee.

I tried indeed without success with a transcend MTS400 512GB SSD.

If anyone finds the trick, please let me know!

Can that laptop be delivered with a M.2 ssd drive?

I got confuse because in the bios there is an option to boot from NVMe which i though was related to the M.2 port.

But it seems that the SATA 2.5" bay can be use in NVMe mode.

So now i'm stuck with only 1drive when i though it was possible to have a 2.5" drive and a M.2 2042 SSD.

:(

Sadly, the tests done so far indicates that the only Skylake model support 2242 SSD is T460p.  No luck with other models so far.
