P51 BSOD issue

2018-04-24, 11:57 AM

I believe i have tried everything and still dont have an answer. i have a P51 with 64GB of memory, bought from lenovo, and I am getting a BSOD everyday. I have swapped MB, RAM, and docking station out. I have ensured all drivers, firmware for both docking station and laptop are up to date. i have adjusted the swapfile to none since there is so much ram it is not needed. I seem to have this issue when I put it on the docking station and now after i take it off I still get it. When I look at the dump it states

Probably caused by : memory_corruption ( nt!MiDeletePteRun+806 )

Followup:     MachineOwner

I have no other ideas. There is nothing left to change in the machine and now I am wondering about software or drivers that might be causing the issue. Any help be great!!!

You do not mention what version of Windows you are running, or what dock you have, so if you can reproduce with regularity when docking/undocking,  I would start with basic steps such seeing if you can reproduce with only one SODIMM etc and disabling any startup items.    Also try disabling your AV client temporarily too.

I would also concentrate on the drivers for the video and USB (if using a USB dock) as they would be in play if you are supporting multiple monitors with the dock, and if not using the manufacturers graphics drivers, try those instead of the ones provided by Lenovo.

You also might try running DISM (DISM.exe /Online /Cleanup-image /Restorehealth) and then running a System File Check (SFC /Scannow) to repair any potentially corrupted System Files.

If you can upload your memory.dmp somewhere and post a link, that might be useful too.

Best of luck,

I am running windows 10 version 1709, AV is off, the dock is the only one that fits which is the workstation one. The firmware for it is upto date. It doesn't matter when or if I take it off the dock it still happens. I did the SFC and repaired it and it still happens all drivers  and firmware is up to date from system update. The dock has been swapped out as well. The minidump is 1.8 GB in size. I would need a spot to upload it. Open to suggestions to upload.

I have also multiple colleagues at my company who have a BSOD issue with the P51. Including myself. I have tried quite a few things, but nothing seems to help. I'm running uptodate drivers and also tried different Windows 10 builds. I'm on 1803 right now. The error codes I get are most of the time memory related. The last one was MEMORY_MANAGEMENT. I've run the Windows memory diagnose without errors. We use FSecure as antimalware solution. The BSODs occur frequently at least once a Week, not that often but still... I cannot pinpoint it to a specific workload, it just seems to happen randomly.

Ihave figured mineout, if you go into the UEFI and then video, ensure that discrete and not hybrid is the option. not sure why Lenovo does want us to use thehybrid option but there is a bug in someones code either nvidia or Lenovo

If disabling the integrated graphics card makes the error goes away, it may also be some sort of hardware issue (memory, or iGPU) which would be harder to fix.

Try it and see if it goes away and let me know. Not sure if it's a driver or uefi issue that causes it.

So I've disabled the internal card. Let's see if this resolves the issue. Funny enough, we contacted the Lenovo support and "the issue is not known"... After disableing the card, I had to reinstall the Nvidia driver by hand, since System Update does a really bad job at it.

Disabling the hybrid mode did help. It also caused BSODs whenever I attached an external screen over the HDMI port. Mini DisplayPort worked.

Eventually, the Lenovo support did replace the mainboard of my device. That resolved the issue completely for me.

Hello,

To all user that have(had) BSOD can you anwer this questions :

1/ Do you still have BSOD or did you find a solution if so which one  ?

2/ Do you have external screen, if so do you use hybrid display of only Nvidia card ?

Response from me

1/ Yes I have one BSOD a week, before mainboard replacement I had 1 BSOD a day so mainboard replacement definitively helps but not completely and now I believe it is more related to external display

2/ Yes I have external display, I had BSOD with hybride mode, I'm trying now with Nividia card only

Thanks in advance
