P52 4K, reboot three times forever, after Update Intel ME 12.0 Firmware. Via Lenovo Vantage

2019-01-31, 4:45 AM

Dear Sir or Madam

I am not a native speaker.

My brand new P52 4k needs to reboot three time at each power-off start, befor it goes to login screen.

I updated intel ME 12.0 Firmware to 12.0.22.1310 via lenovo vatange. And it said that the update was successfull.

Befor this update, the computer had never met this kind problem.

I tried to install 12.0 Firmware manualy, but failed ever time.

It's there any way to solve this problem. I've to go to lenove local service center?

I hope you can help me , any useful reply will be highly appreciate.

Thanks in advance.

Admin: This solution was converted to a Knowledgebase article found here:
https://forums.lenovo.com/t5/ThinkPad-P-and-W-Series-Mobile/P52-4K-reboot-three-times-forever-after-Update-Intel-ME/ta-p/4422995

All,

I was able to recover my ThinkPad P52 and ThinkPad P72 with a package that we received from Intel.  These steps also work for P1/X1 Extreme.  Here are the steps:

1.  Plug in AC power

2.  Reboot the system (we want to start from a freshly-booted state)

3.  Save this file to your PC: [Admin: see Knowledgebase article]

4.  Unzip the file to some folder on your PC

5.  From the unzipped folder, right-click on SleepResumeUpdateFW_Reset.cmd and choose Run as Administrator

6.  If you see a screen like "Windows protected your PC", you may need to click on More info and and then click on Run anyway.

7.  If you see a screen like "Do you want to allow this app to make changes to your device", click on Yes.

8.  The system will go to sleep for 30 seconds, and then wake up automatically.  Please do not try to wake it up manually.  Just wait.

9.  After the system wakes up, you should see the firmware flashing to the new version, it may take a couple minutes, please don't interrupt it.

10.  The system will reboot automatically, after this, the problem should be gone

11.  To confirm the new firmware updated successfully, reboot and press F1 to enter BIOS Setup, then look for "ME Firmware Version" 12.0.24.1314

I am having a similar experience on a P72 (Windows 10 1809).

I cannot enter the BIOS on the 1st or 2nd boot; 3rd boot is OK. Boot-up time has slowed; Windows Fast-Startup is no longer honored. But Windows boot up fine. I tried an F9 reset to no avail.

I have tried to back off the ME 12.0 firmware. Communication with the operating system no longer functions. I tried re-installing the latest ME software, but this fails also. To me, it appears that the firmware installation process has failed (the firmware itself may be OK??). The entries and drivers in the device manager look OK, but don't appear to work.

I would like to back out the firmware upgrade, but can't.

Any ideas???

Hello everyone,

I am having the same problem, this is really frustrating. My BIOS is already on default settings so I don’t really know what to do...

Any idea? How have you solved this?

Cheers,

Piero

Is it possible to enter BIOS setup?  What is shown for ME Firmware Version on the main screen?

The ME Firmware Version on the main BIOS screen is 12.0.22.1310. This agrees with n2crg19w. (Windows 10 is at 1809/17763.292.)

Trying to back out the firmware to n2crg18w or to reinstall n2crg19w, I receive a message Intel(R) Management Software Interface is not installed in the system. The n2cme09w package (Intel Management Engine 12.0 Software) is installed and the drivers appear to be correctly updated [system device Intel(R) Management Engine Interface and port Intel(R) Active Management Technology - SOL (COM3)]. I suspect that the package did not install correctly/completely since there is no message issued stating that the install completed.

The firmware cannot be downgraded, it is impossible.  Can you open a command prompt as admin, then "cd \drivers\win\me" and then "meinfowin.exe > output.txt".  Please zip up output.txt and post it here.

Is there an AMT setting in the BIOS (in the Config section)?  If so, can you try enabling it?

Another question, have you previously Disabled or Permanently Disabled the AMT setting in the BIOS?

Trying to access to the Intel Management Engine (Ctrl+P when booting), "FW Status Error" on upper-left corner.
