P52 Audio not working with with headphone jack but works after reboot.

P52 Lenovo ThinkPad

Windows 10

 

I have an issue with my laptop in which when I plug my earphones in and start the laptop then my earphones works fine.

I do not see any 'headphones' in the sound settings.

Rather the sound is using ''Speaker/HP'' as the default and playback device.

But when I plug my earphones out and plugin them back in the sounds is coming from the laptop and not my earphones.

The playback device is still ''Speaker/HP''.

 

I have installed the latest driver:  https://support.lenovo.com/gb/en/downloads/ds504007

I have ran Lenovo Vantage and updated the Bios and other drivers.

I have been to Device manager, disabled and enabled the driver but it does not help.

I have tested with other earphones and confirm its an issue with the laptop.

I have ran windows updates.

 

I am unable to install Realtek audio console from the microsoft store as my company blocks access to installing apps from the store.

As mentions If I restart the laptop with the earphones in the jack then they will work but once removed it will not work until the next restart.

 

I have been searching the internet and followed many guides but I am unable to get it working.

Perhaps this is a hardware issue??

 

Any advice is appriated.

I might have found the solution. From Device Manager I selected the sound card, then "uninstall" + clicking "delete driver". Then ran "Rescan...". Windows found the device again and installed them automatically. Now the jack seems to work.

 

Two more remarks:

1) Now I see that the "Dolby Atmos" app is working. Before it didn't work; i.e. it opened, but changing the settings didn't result in changes in the sound.

2) I suspect there is still an issue somewhere. Still with the driver maybe? Poor hardware design? The sound doesn't have such a good quality. I'm benchmarking by plaing some music. I have a quite good calibrated audiophile's ear and I'm quite confident in its measurements. But even so, I compare sound via a Plantronics analog headphone and then via Plantronics USB. Quite similar headphones; but the first w/ the computers sound adapter; the second with it's own USB sound card. And the difference is quite noticeable.

 

2a) I observe that changing the audio format from 16 bit -> 24 bit, there is a bit of improvement.

2b) Comparing between the computer's audio jack vs the Dock's audio jack, same thing: noticeable difference.
