Re: P52 - ELAN Touchpad driver (ETD.sys) issues (latency spikes, BSoD)

2019-05-21, 22:16 PM

Hi all,

I received a new Lenovo ThinkPad P52 a week ago and I have not had a single BSOD but I have been dealing with these input lags / touchpad issues since day one.

My system:

Device Make: ThinkPad P52

Product Number: 20M900GUS

I also do NOT have a Touch Screen so the issue cannot be caused by a Touch Screen. I read that as a possible cause before.

I called Lenovo and was told to send it in for a replacement but I think it is a driver related issue and I will try out that debug firmware that was just posted.

I will post an update after using the debug firmware for a few days.

Best regards,

Johannes

Don't forget to install the debug firmware, johannes. I understand that the lag/touchpad issues are significantly better (for me, completely resolved) using the debug firmware. I also understand that the driver resolves BSOD issues, should you happen to experience them.

From what I can tell it resolved it for me as well. I used the debug firmware and I have been using it for 3 hours now and I did not have a single lag so far. Before it would happen every other minute.

I already like my P52 much better :)

I have never had a BSOD with this laptop so I cannot say anything about that.

I can't seem to be able to edit my post. I just wanted to give an update saying that I have not had any issues with my TouchPad since I used the debug firmware. It has 100% fixed the lags I had before with the TouchPad. I still have never had a BSOD with my P52 since day one. :)

Update:

After a week, the debug firmware works and the touchpad lag not so frequent anymore, but the issue still exists.

Update from me as well regarding debug touchpad firmware.

So far it's been great. There will be the occasional slow-down and lag-out, but it's entirely tolerable and lasts for only a few seconds at a time until it resumes behaving normally and as expected.

In other words, it's not *perfect*, but ~98% better, which is immensely better.

Re: P52 - ELAN Touchpad driver (ETD.sys) issues (latency spikes, BSoD)

I reinstalled Windows 10 OS recently, found scrolling with trackpoint is quite weird and then updated trackpoint & touchpad from the lenovo website.

However, the symptom remains as the same and touchpad turns weird in addition this time.

What's worse is, the firmwares are the first release so there is no way to roll back.

Symptoms:

- Track point: Scrolling with trackpoint fast to the end (page's top or bottom), and release the trackpoint and middle button, then the page will slipped down a little bit back.

- Touch pad: Terrible point precision. If I move the pointer with touchpad and stop my finger, the pointer still moves a little, like it has some sort of inertia. This happens time to time, not consistantly.

Waiting for next firmware & driver.

Reply above is my previous post and now I just found this thread.

After installing trial firmware, latency of my touchpad get better, but it still has some dragging problem time to time.

And it's accuracy of movement is still terrible.

I installed the firmware update and it worked perfectly! However, I noticed that the issue of the latency lag comes from plugging in my AC Adapter. Since the battery of this laptop is almost directly below the touchpad, I noticed that whenever I am not charging my laptop, the mouse seems to work flawlessly. However, when I start charging my battery with the AC adapter, the issue comes back again but is a lot better than before.

Good notice!  Appeared to be a "noise" issue - firmware can "digitally filter", but not correct the source of noise.  Attaching AC adapter can DEF increase noise....:)
