Re: P52 - ELAN Touchpad driver (ETD.sys) issues (latency spikes, BSoD)

I installed the firmware update and it worked perfectly! However, I noticed that the issue of the latency lag comes from plugging in my AC Adapter. Since the battery of this laptop is almost directly below the touchpad, I noticed that whenever I am not charging my laptop, the mouse seems to work flawlessly. However, when I start charging my battery with the AC adapter, the issue comes back again but is a lot better than before.

Can you please confirm this with a couple experiments?

1.  Does lag problem happen on AC power when battery is at 100%?  The battery won't be charging when it's at 100% even if AC is still attached.  So I want to know if lag problem still happens in this case.

2.  Try removing the battery and run the P52 only on AC power.  Does lag problem still happen?

Previous Results (From what I remember):

Charging Battery (0% - 99%) : Immense lag with touchpad

Battery with AC Plugged (100%): Have not tested yet

Battery Only: Almost little to no Lag

Something happened to my battery today (6/17/19) which prevented it from charging even though it was plugged in (This was literally minutes ago when you replied)

Current Results (Today, 6/17/19):

I had to reset my battery so I had to turn off my laptop, take it out the battery and held the power button for 30 seconds.

Charging Battery (93% - 99%): Slight lag with touchpad (Better than previous results)

Battery with AC Plugged (100%): Almost no to little lag (Good Result)

Battery Only: Almost no to little lag (Best Result)

Conclusion:

I will get the occasional lag at all levels whether it is plugged in, however, it is still manageable now. I will continue to update my findings.

Updates:

2:00pm - Battery just finished charging to 100%, stills feel a bit laggy on the touchpad.

2:20pm - After waiting and my battery is now really at 100%, while plugged into the AC adapter, touchpad is working flawlessly.

With my experiences of touchpad lag, there are no increments; it's either lagging or it's not. It's also made no difference whether I'm on battery, charging, not charging, plugged into wall with no battery in, etc.

That was almost the same case with me until I reset my battery. Maybe, try resetting your battery?
______
Steps to reset battery:
1. Turn off laptop.
2. Unplug AC adapter.
3. Remove the battery.
4. Hold the power button for 30 seconds.
5. Put the battery back in and plug in your AC adapter.
6. Turn on your computer.

As of right now, the lag seemed to gone once it charges up to 100% while plugged in or not plugged in.

Re: P52 - ELAN Touchpad driver (ETD.sys) issues (latency spikes, BSoD) - my feedback after 1 month

2019-06-17, 22:33 PM

I am running the beta drivers, which have been posted here in this forum thread (on May 13), for a month now.

I rarely encounter slowdowns. The slowdowns can be solved like before, by toggling "Scroll inactive windows when I hover over them" (in the mouse settings) multiple times. I looked in the task manager and saw CPU spikes, which seem to have occured at that time.

Once in a while, the pointer jumps for one or two inches. First I only noticed it in ableton, but I had it in the browser, also. So it's not depending on the software, I guess. The jumping pointer did not occur before I installed the beta drivers.

Generally a way better experience than before, despite the glitches, now and then.

Hello, just wondering if there is any update on this. I got my P52 yesterday and instantly started experiencing latency issues every few minutes (and it did seem correlated with power delivery) so I flashed @someotherguy firmware and rebooted, I immediately experienced latency for about 2 min but then havent experience any so far after that.

I've been running the newly released firmware for a few days and it works great, only problem there seams is sometimes the cursor would flick about an inch from its original position in some general z direction but that only happeneds rarely.

Me too. Lagging is gone but precision is still terrible.

Re: P52 - ELAN Touchpad driver (ETD.sys) issues (latency spikes, BSoD)

2019-08-23, 19:02 PM

Hello and happy weekend everyone.

I am happy to report that the new P73 I recieved this week (model 20QRS00200) has not crashed but is experiencing the laggy floating pointer interference issue quite frequently.

I am on the driver 24.21.0.2 that shipped with the laptop and checking for updates states that I am running the latest version? which seems odd since the driver date is 11/13/2018 which seems quite a bit older than the information in this thread.

Is there any way to get some visibility into fixing this from the lenovo side? this is a brand new $3500 laptop and to ship with such a wonky touchpad is quite embarassing.
