Re: P52 - ELAN Touchpad driver (ETD.sys) issues (latency spikes, BSoD)

2018-11-28, 11:32 AM

Just got another BSOD, this time with the stopcode WDF_VIOLATION. Looks like it is linked to the touchpad driver (ETD.sys) again.

Here's another Windows kernel minidump: https://drive.google.com/file/d/1KkmU1LjM1NCioh6ws6uXiPg4S-TA0tLJ/view?usp=sharing

By the way: I just noticed that I have mistakenly called the TrackPoint 'trackpad' in my initial post. For reference, this issue concerns the ELAN touchpad but NOT the trackpoint.

Have you noticed a problem with Windows settings connecting to the Elan touchpad even with the Elan driver installed? If so could this be somehow related to BSOD ?

Lenovo support SG directed me back to this driver but it seemingly gives me many BSODs too.

ELAN driver level 24.21.15.1 is available on the Microsoft download website.

http://www.catalog.update.microsoft.com/Home.aspx

There are many versions to be downloaded; you will need to find the one that matches your hardware.

Thanks I'll give it  a spin and hope for the best!

Interestingly it made the Elan touchpad applet re-appear. Maybe it was a version thing, I downloaded the version for Win 10 1809.

The only luck I've had eliminating the BSODs is just not using the touchpad at all.

Really curious if the posted ELAN driver does anything. My P52 has stopped turning on, so I'm waiting on a repair and i can't try it myself.

Downloading newer drivers from Windows Update does not help, unfortunately. Just got the floaty touchpad latency thing again, this time with the 24.21.15.1 (10/30/18) ELAN drivers.

Don't want to jinx myself but at this stage JohnL you deserve a medal for your suggestion! I've gone from blue screen ever few hours to none yet since I installed the driver 24.21.15.1 for Windows update 1809 several days ago. I've been deliberately stressing the machine by running various demanding programs too.

BetaDach long shot but did you make sure you installed a driver version corresponding to your windows version?

Also I have installed the trackpoint firmware update that's supposed to fix intermittent drift. I know it's not the touch pad but worth mentioning.

For the first time on my 2nd P52 (first one had a DOA display panel) I have some hope now that it isn't a waste of money.

So I just got a P72 delivered yesterday, guess what. BSOD and the MEMORY.DMP in WinDBG shows:

MODULE_NAME: ETD

IMAGE_NAME: ETD.sys

Looks like I have the same issue, has the install of this windows update fixed it for you?

Used the ELAN driver level 24.21.15.1 cab, so far no lagging, or BSOD. Will update if that changes, hopefully Lenovo does something about this one but considering how bad this company is at everything else, I doubt we should expect a correction for the new driver anytime soon. For now just avoid using their update program, as I believe it may overwrite this driver.

It's the case for me I have a stable P52 with Windows 1809 and the corresponding 24.21.15.1 cab Elan driver.
