P52 - Slow file transfer through TB3 after updating latest BIOS and IME firmware

2020-09-06, 17:04 PM

After updating Aug. 26th BIOS/IME, file transfer rate through TB3 external NVMe to internal NVMe (both are 1TB WD SN750) became extremely slow.

Before: 3000MB/s at average.

After: 740MB/s, sometimes 140MB/s.

Filesystem of external NVMe is exFAT (formatted in Mac).

Weird thing is if I run CrystalDiskMark on my external NVMe, it gives sequential read/write like 3500MB/3000MB per second.

But in real situation like file transfer (4.9GB iso file), it just gives 140-750MB/s.

Another symptom I think related to this is, interference between TB3 devices.

Usually, two TB3 devices are attached to my P52.

  • External NVMe drive.
  • 10Gbps external LAN adapter.

Last week when I was watching youtube, I just ran CrystalDiskInfo on my external NVMe drive just for fun ... and right then suddenly video streaming on youtube became extremely lagging, just like playing slideshow ...
