P52 as fast on battery as pluged in?

2018-07-27, 13:07 PM

Hi, I am considering to buy a P52.

Now I have a P50 with 2.9 GHz Xeon CPU, and unfortunately it's quite slower on battery, than with ac power (Cinebench 15: 720 plug in, 350-550 with battery). Tech support only said, it should not be and I tried severall settings (BIOS, Windows power profiles etc). This behaviour was with the Lenovo installation and also with a fresh 1803 Windows 10 installation.

Now my question. Could a new P52 user please run a benchmark (eg. Cinebench CPU Multi Core, best would be 2-3 runs each) on ac power and on battery?

That would be very, very kind. As I do a lot of works on battery, I'm not going to purchase a new notebook when the CPU performance would be throttled.

Regards

Manuel

Most likely not, as the battery would have to be able to supply 135-170W to achieve the same performance. That seems highly unlikely.

I had the opposite problem.

My computer was very slow when plugged in.

It was the power plan:

- When I switched to maximum performance (when plugged in) the CPU reached max speed.

- I need to switch to balanced when on battery, though, otherwise the battery will drain very quickly.

The whole energy thing seems to be a bit complex.

But anyway, I have received my E2176-M P52. It hat reduced the cpu frequency quite fast on battery (after 5 seconds to 1.5/6 GHz) or so, until I changed the minimum cpu state on battery to 100%. Without this settings the cinebench 15 score on battery was around 500. Now with this settings here are my scores (~averages with 3-4 more or less subsequent runs):

on ac: 950 (900-1100)

on battery: 1100 (quite stable)

So far, I'm happy. It also does seems, that the 100% cpu state does not affact battery live. The PKG Power visible on ThrottleStop does not change when switching from 5 to 100% minimum processor state.

Does anybody hat installled the Lenovo Intelligent Thermal Solution Driver? What does it do? I have reinstalled Windows 10 from scratch, so at the moment I'm happy and have not installed this driver.

Regards

I too haven't noticed much of a slow down... There is a slider on the battery also that can call upon more performance and reduce the battery run time also.
