P52 doesn't wake up from sleep (sometimes)

Hi there,


An annoying issue appeared for my P52. Sometimes, it doesn't wake up from sleep. The power led keeps blinking smoothly no matter what I do: press power button, press Fn, open/close lid, connect dock, press dock button, connect usb, etc.


I noticed that when I first try to put the computer out of sleep, the wifi led lights up for a short while. As if the PC would wake up. But then it becomes off, and the power continue to blink smoothly.


I have updated the BIOS and all drivers via Vantage.


Any ideas what might be the source of this?

Welcome to the Community Forums.


These issues can be caused by several things, including incompatible or outdated Audio, Display and Chipset drivers.

Here's a few steps you can try to remedy the issue:


Step 1. Turn off 'Fast Startup' if available.

- Navigate to the windows icon in the bottom left, click it and start typing "Control Panel"
- While in Control Panel, navigate to the "Power Options" Icon.
- In the left column, click "Choose what closing the lid does"
- Click "Change Settings that are currently unavailable"
- Unmark "Turn on fast startup" (This does not affect Restarting the computer), but when it starts up again from sleep and/or hibernation.


Step 2. Check Mouse/Touchpad Power Management Settings.
- Right click the "Windows Icon" in the bottom left corner and select "Device Manager" from the list
- Navigate and drop down "Mice and other pointing Devices" on the list. 
- Right click the HID-compliant mouse/touchpad and see if it has something called "Power Management" in the tab overview.

- Un-check "Allow the computer to turn off this device to save power" if available and checked.
- Check the box "Allow this device to wake the computer"


Step 3. Check Advanced Power Settings:

- Head back to the Power Options settings as explained in Step 1.

- Click "Change Plan Settings" on the power plan for your device.

- Click "Change advanced power settings"

- Navigate and expand the "Sleep" section.

- Try keeping "Sleep" enabled, but disabling/turning off Hybrid Sleep & Hibernate.

- Set "Allow Wake Timers" to enabled, but also try disabled to see if this works.


Step 4. Uninstall Display Device & Audio with drivers and reinstall:
- Press the Windows key + X and select "Device Manager"
- Expand "Display Adapters"
- Right click the AMD, NVIDIA and/or INTEL VGA devices and select "Uninstall"
- If prompted to uninstall drivers associated with the device, tick the box and continue.
- Expand Audio inputs and Outputs
- Expand Sound, Video and game Controllers
- Expand System Devices.
- Uninstall any Audio related device + drivers.
- Perform a restart of the laptop. 


Step 5. Update System Board / Audio / Display drivers:
Make sure you have the newest Chipset, Serial I.O and Management Engine Interface drivers for your device along with Audio and Display drivers. 
You can find and install the newest drivers from the Lenovo Support Page
Just plot in the serial number of the device and hit enter, might have to press it twice, then head to Drivers & Software, select Manual Update, then select "Chipset", "Audio" & "Display & Video Graphics" section.

Make sure you have the latest Windows Updates.
**Note: Make sure the AC adapter is connected and that you have at least 30% battery charge when performing system board update.
