P52 turns off when press Fn+F8 and battery isn't plugged in

2020-08-22, 22:58 PM

after my P52 was repaird by the manufacturer because of a malfunction of something on the motherboard with the documented symptom "random reset", i got a P52 with new mainboard and a hidden function that is mentioned in the subject :).  Normally this key kombination is for turning on and off the WiFi, but now it turns off the computer without warning, when the battery is not inserted. After that you need to reconnect the power plug on the computer.

Do someone have the same issue?

And maybe a solution.

Additional Information

It is important to note that users should not attempt to plug 135W or higher AC adapters into an outlet on an airplane because they risk tripping the circuit breaker in the seat and disabling the outlet.

The F8 key puts the P52 into airplane mode, which means Airplane Radio Mode and Airplane Power Mode.  Since you decided to remove your battery, the effect of Airplane Power Mode will be to unplug the AC adapter.  If you just want to turn off WiFi, I think you can do that in Action Center or by using the WiFi icon in the notification area.

I would suggest you set custom charge thresholds in Vantage instead of removing the battery.

For always plugged-in use, I recommend using charge at 40% and stop at 50%. This greatly reduces battery wear from charging and prevents wear from low charge.

For mobile use, that's up to your priorities, but stopping charge at 80% and preventing going under 20% will reduce wear.

The battery would be there if needed but it's usage would be minimized.

P.S. If I already wrote this, I'm sorry, I don't see it in this thread. Mobile editing has bugs ;-)
