That's great... do you mind sharing what the issue is and how it's being fixed for all of our own curiosity?

I'm just reading this, and don't have a P52s or even a dock.

But we early P70 owners had a similar "crackling" sound that came out of the laptop speakers when there had been no sound emitted for a while (kind of like the the speakers "went to sleep" after a while of inactivity, perhaps to save power) and then finally there was a sound.  Seemed like when the speakers "came back from sleep" a static voltage had built up, because the "crackling" sound was kind of like a lightning bolt of static electricity snapping at you.

That's just my verbal description of this "crack", and what might have been causing it... but whatever it really was plagued us for about 6 months.  Eventually Lenovo was able to reproduce it in their lab and determine that it was a bug in the early version of the Realtek HD audio driver for the chip in the P70.  And the "fix" was an updated version of the Realtek driver, and sure enough the "crack" symptom finally disappeared never again to show its head.

I am suspecting the same kind of thing is probably happening here, something not quite right in firmware or driver, and correcting it is all it takes to make the symptom disappear.  I know, hard to believe, but as the first reporter of the P70 "crack" symptom back in early 2016 I can tell you it can be a slightly defective audio driver that is somehow slightly incompatible with the laptop audio system that can be responsible.

Dear Customer,

The popping noise is the DAC on/off noise , the powered speaker has high playback gain and it will lead to the noise hearable .

Thanks for reporting this issue to Lenovo to make our product better.

Sincerely,

Sunny

On my X1 Yoga 3rd gen, the popping issue through the Thunderbolt dock was resolved with the latest firmware update for the TB 3 dock: 17.0.0.2-N25TF13W
