P53 VR-performance

2019-11-13, 12:57 PM

Hello

I have a P53 with i7-985 2.6Ghz prosessor, 32Gb RAM and the Nvidia Quadro RTX 3000 graphics card. This setup is advertises as beaing VR-redy. After testing it with both HTC Vive and Oculus Quest S I can't get more than 45 FPS in VR. VR under 90 FPS is unbareble and totaly unusable in more than a few secons. I get the same results using different types of VR-software so this is a general VR-problem.

Does anyone have similar experiences or sugestions to solutions?

Thins I have tried:

- Updated windows and everything to newest version.

- Updated Nvidia driver to newest version from the nvidia website.

- Tried different ports on the computer.

- Disabled the Intel graphis cad in BIOS.

- Made shure the battery saving are set to full performance.

- Set the Nvidia driver to always use the Nvidia Quadro RTX 3000 and not the Intel card.

RTX 3000 is somewhere around desktop GTX 1060 performance-wise, which is somewhere in the "VR is barely possble" territory?

You are probarbly correct in that. Only that I would not call 45FPS as bearly possible as it's not posible to use in any real world cases.

I feel this is quite missleading from Nvidia and Lenovos side. One would expect a computer as this, built for creative professionals to performe better.

There are several threads related to the Nvidia Quadro RTX GPUs throttling Memory Clock speeds for no apparent reason. Most likely, you're experiencing the same issue.

resurrecting this as I have a similar problem with VR on my P53 / RTX3000 running an oculus quest via link cable or ALVR.

The problem I found was running in "balanced mode" for power.

I got it it working by installing lenovo vantage software and ensuring the power options are set to best performance which in turn sets the "intelligent cooling" in vantage to performance mode.

It maintains framerates perfectly... but seems to switch back to balanced mode and becomes slow again sometimes...

I still have more testing to do, but there is hope...

Hi,

I'm having same problems with P53 / RTX3000 using VR.

Can you share which was the fix you performed to allow VR on that Lenovo model?

Thanks in advance.

Manuel.
