About every 5 year changing laptop ( W700-W540-P53) was a good move. I' ve got the P53 last week and must say the difference P53 (I9) to W540 (i7) loading a drawing took the same time if not a bit more. What a difference against the change from  W700 to W540. Apparently 128 Gb doesn't make the difference.  Perhaps waiting for Xeon processor would have been a solution but Xeon not availablable.

Hi, having owned a W541 and still having P50, P51 and P53, i7 RTX 3000 64GB RAM and NVMe I wonder what screen option and GPU you selected on the W540 and P53 respectively? Are you using the same Windows 10 release? What storage option did you go with on W540 and P53?

For me the W541 w/K2100, CPU clocked really high, i7-4810 (especially after over clocking) and is in the same ballpark as P50 and only slightly slower than P51 Xeon. But the i9 (and in my experience with P53 i7) actually provides a noticeable jump compared to W541. if W540 is FHD and P53 is 4k that could account for some added sluggishness on P53, espicially if ou use hybrid graphics setting. If you are reusing the same SSD from W540 that could also explain similar load times. The GPU performance on W541 was the largest drawback compared to newer offerings.

The added performance and RAM capacity might not affect the initial loading times of the application, but operation and overall performance should be noticeably better. If you are on battery and not needing the added performance it should be a quieter experience also.

Xeon CPU will not make a noticeably positive difference compared to i9 on P53..
