P53 vs Macbook Pro 16"

2020-02-20, 17:06 PM

After configuring both they seem to be similarly priced.

The P53 needs me to carry around a brick to run it at full throttle, and yet the Macbook Pro requires only a decent USB C charger.

What am I missing?

unlike a mac on the p53 you can change the hard disks (3), the memory, the connection is complete no need to add a dock on the desktop, you can actually choose your video card and probably lots more thing i forgot

Yes, however that doesn't explain why one requires a brick to power it.

Ok, I'll be more specific - if I configure them with the same cpu, memory and ssd capacity etc .. why does the P53 need a brick or why can the Macbook Pro get away with only a USB C charger ...

I'm not interested in what OS they are running (I can install Windows on the MacBook if I choose)

And I know I can upgrade the memory or ssd on the P53 down the road.

If I give them the same tasks, encode a movie for example, will they take the same amount of time?

Is one throttled?

You can send Lenevo an email on why Macbook Pro 16" and other Lenovo Laptops have very light chargers. But P53 has a brick charger

why does the P53 need a brick or why can the Macbook Pro get away with only a USB C charger ...

P53 smallest adapter is 170W , and Apple's is 96W.

For CPU-only tasks this does not matter much, but with GPU involved P53 can consume up to 200W for period of time ( https://www.notebookcheck.net/Lenovo-ThinkPad-P53-in-Review-Classic-workstation-with-a-lot-of-GPU-performance.442599.0.html ).

P1 Gen 2 and X1 Extreme are more comparable to that Mac than P53, and both can charge from USB-C according to the manual. Probably from Apple's 96W too :)
