P70 RAM confusion

2019-06-12, 13:02 PM

I've been looking to upgrade my P70 from 8Gb to 16Gb.

I currently have one 8Gb card in the machine, under the keyboard, and was searching on here for the best slot to insert the additional 8Gb.

All references I've found say that you should first use slots 1&3 then 2&4.

They also say that 1&3 are under the keyboard, 2&4 are behind the hatch.

On my machine 3&4 are under the hatch and 1&2  are under the keyboard.

The original RAM is in slot 1, so which is the correct slot to insert the upgrade RAM?

Hello HantsRat,

you should install the upgraded Memory in Slot 3.

the genuine Memory is installed in alot 1 and you proceed with the additional one in slot 3

Thanks for the speedy response!

So I leave the original one under the keyboard and install the new one in slot 3 under the hatch.

Cheers!

Not sure what you mean by 'facing'?
On my machine 1&2 are above each other under the keyboard and 3&4 are side by side under the bottom hatch.

Hello again,

sorry i got you wrong in the first time.

please place the 2 Memories under the Keyboard (slot 1&2 on your machine).

Question: the 8gb already installed on your machine did occupy the lower slot right?

if so, please remove it and insert the 16gb in the lower slot and the 8gb in the upper slot.

I believe the slots are configured dynamically on the first start-up after the memory change so it doesn't matter where you put it.

True.

and it would make it easier for you if in the near future you will add a 3rd and 4th memory module. you can place them under the bottom hatch.
