Happy to report he Evo 960 SSD works wonderfully on the P70.

From the BIOS screen it takes only about 17 seconds to boot and start using Windows :)

Have some problems here with the 250GB 960 Evo in my P70 with BIOS 2.13: no drive is detected in Win10/Linux if I enable RAID mode. The stripe size shows "N/A", strange.

Drives are only visisble with RAID disabled. Any ideas?

Thank you...

Re: P70: Samsung 960 EVO - 500GB PCIe NVMe M.2 SSD Commpatibility

Part of my contribution might not be exactly addressing the question.

I do have a T70 with a Lenovo SSD 0.5 TB by birth, which seems to be Samsum 960 M2, w/ Windows 10 Pro.

I had no problems adding a S. 960 PRO M2 1 TB use as a Data repository while I was still researching my real motive for it, to install W-7 Ultimate 64 and create hopefully a dual boot.

As stated, I had no problem recognizing and formatting the 960 Pro. as data for W-10.

After serious research I was eventually able to create an installation USB with the proper drivers for the SSD and successfully installed W-7 in the 960 Pro. For those interested, you must remove all others drives from the system.

I was planing using the BIOS boot selection for the OS choice.

My message is that Samsum NVMe SSD 960 Pro M2 is perfectly compatible with the P70.

I will talk about the second part of my dilemma in a new tread, for simplicity sake.

Cheers

Ever since putting two 960 Pro into my P50, I have been getting some Driver_Power_State_Failure BSOD from time to time.

Anybody shares the same experience?

So, does the Self Encryption work with Samsung 960 Evo/Pro with Thinkpad P50/P70?

Re: P70: Samsung 960 EVO - 500GB PCIe NVMe M.2 SSD Commpatibility

I have a P70 with a Samsung 960 PRO 2 TB PCIe-NVMe installed as the boot drive. Working fine now for more than a month. My second drive is a 2.5" Crucial 2TB MX300 also working fine. I don't do a lot of large file video editing but do run VMware with one or two VMs active.  No problems.

Someone with a P70 and PCIe-NVMe drive mentioned they installed a thermal pad. Anyone know where to get that, and if it is necessary?  Samsung 960 PRO has on-board thermal management so we're likely fine without Lenovo's support for thermal issues.  Would be great to get some comments and insights from Lenovo or anyone? Thx.

Hi
Did you need to stick a thermal pad underneath the drive? I have been mooching around and read somewhere that you needed one.

I have a refurbished |P70 coming tomorrow and am keen on an NVME drive.

Thanks

I have a p70 with Samsung NVME and no thermal pad.

I believe the pad is only required on p50's.

Best your check with someone that knows for sure, as the above is from memory only.
