Power Plugs

2009-03-21, 21:07 PM

Is the 65 AC Adaptor from the T61 compatible with the W500? The imput plug is the correct size.

AND, is the AC/DC Combo Adaptor from the T61 compatible with the W500 - again, the imput plug is the correct size.

Hello Ztax:

I do not know the answer to your question, but I can tell you how you can find the answer yourself:

Look at all the fine print written on the side of the little brick that is the transformer.  Wedged somewhere in there amongst the seal of electrical approval from what seems to be every United Nations member country you will find a specification that indicates what the voltage output is, what the maximum wattage is, and what the polarity of the plug that goes into the computer is.

For example, the very large print at the top of my W500 power brick states that it provides 90 watt, 20 volt output.  Further down the brick - somewhere between the electrical approval sticker from Outer Mongolia and the electrical approval sticker from the Vatican - it indicates that the output is 20 volts, 4.5 amps, and that the center pin of the connector that goes into the computer is the positive pin.

If the electrical output of the power brick that you propose to use has the same values as the electrical brick that came with your W500 (90 watts, 20 volts, center pin positive), then you can use it with your W500.  If it is not the same, then you should not use it with your W500.
