Re: Random P51 blue screen

Hello,

Remove one memory module and repeat the test.

Then, remove it and install the other one and repeat the test.

Do you get an error with both memory modules, or only one?

Same issue for me and in my case I do not beleive it is realted with memory as I change memory and still have BSDO ....

Did anybody found a solution ?

That problem was reported here 6 months ago by many people and I have it for a long time also.

Is there any Lenovo answer ?

Hello,

I have a Lenovo P51s, and BSOD happen to only seem to happen during charging and while I walk away. Perhaps when the screen dims.

I tested the RAM in memtest, all is good. I ran the Lenovo Diagnostics, the full one. All is good. It seems to work rock solid while I'm using it, but when plugged in and while walking away it seems to freeze up or BSOD. Last time the mouse would move, but wouldn't click on anything, the screen wouldn't light back up when I returned. Truely perplexed. Never had an issue with my previous T430 with anything like this. That thing is rock solid. This and the HDMI port not working is turning into a less then stellar experience.

Re: Random P51 blue screen

I have bluescreens randomly also all the time (at least once a day) on this 3K$ machine !!

I changed RAM but same problem so it is not ram though minidump reports a faulty RAM ..

so I beleive P51 is just a faulty hardware, it has big issue maybe on RAM connector or somewhere else.

They change the mainboard ... and I still have BSOD !!

The mainboard was a refurbished one, this is not serious from Lenovo, if you have a problem they put you a RAM from a refurbished computer that has also problem .. it is just a lotery.

Search the forum for P51 BSOD ... there are tons and tons of post. ...

My mainboard is going to be changed for the third time tomorrow .. I can tell you that after, if I still have problem, I ask for a refund or I suite Lenovo .. so many 3K professionnal machine with BSOD .. I have never seen that in a 20 years carreer in IT ...

Thanks for that insight. Honestly I'd rather skip the legal aspect if they'd just fix it. But if enough people have been effected it should probably turn into something bigger. As you mention these were spendy machines and are usually designed to be work horses. Not less reliable than a $500 computer. How unfortunate Lenovo. :(

A new BIOS appreared. You know something is off if they're updating the BIOS every other week.
Does this update fix anything?

I don't know .. this is strange indeed ...

I had one BSOD a couple of days ago and wait for the next one to complain to lenovo for a refund.

They asked me to run basic windows checkdisk and scandisk ..  ;-)))

I updated the firmware of one extra samsung SSD .. but regarding the number of users who have BSOD ..

is suppect this is not going to sove the issue ..

Anyway I go for the BIOS update right now before my computer crash agains !!

UPDATE:

There is no new Bios ? Where did you see that ? lastest is from August 1st

Re: Random P51 blue screen

For me it looks like a driver bug. I had crashes as others described before, mainly  the computer was sitting idle or when it was waking it up.

A thread on Tom's hardware suggests disabling "NVIDIA Audio Device", which solved the problem for me! I am using two external monitors connected to the dockingstation via DP which also have their audio via DP. Now of course the audio does not reach the monitor, but the crashes are gone. http://www.tomshardware.co.uk/forum/id-3518725/blue-screen-lenovo-legion-y720-idle-windows.html

A thread on reddit mentions the Intel WiFi drivers, but I did not try that. https://www.reddit.com/r/thinkpad/comments/8b9ewj/windows_10_bsods_on_the_p51_when_waking_up_from/

Here are some of the errors I got with the NVIDIA Audio driver enabled, even after exchanging RAM. I didn't get a single one of these after disabling it.
