Re: SMART drive self-test warning

2018-04-26, 14:45 PM

Greetings.
My thinkpad product: 2436CTO
Serial: *******
BIOS: G5ETA6WW (2.66 )

started going wonky as become a paperweight in mid march. After rolling back updates and steps like that, I finally restored the computer using the factory/Windows discs to Windows7. In all the time mid march - mid april, I never received a message of hard drive failure or any other notifications either from Lenovo hardware scan tool (done weekly since May 2013) or from Windows.

now I have the laptop as windows 7 with nothing really loaded and installed because immediately I received hard disk failure messages.

this morning of course I keep getting the same messages but I ran the hardware scan for the first since restoring the hard drive and I get the smart drive self test - warning
smart status test - failed

Device: HGST HTS725050A7E630 - 465.76 GBs

final result code: W1RN6Z22V-8E9T53
(plz see attached)

So do u or anyone have some ideas what I need to do to resolve the issue?
Thanks for your time and expertise...
Kevin

Hi icubud,

Welcome to the Community Forums.

Failed SMART test are indication of failure of integrity of the drive.

You may have to backup everything that you need from the machine. Likewise creating a recovery media to reinstall once you have replaced your harddrive. It may still work at the moment so you should take this opportunity to do it.

How to create and use factory recovery disks on systems with Windows 7 preload - Think, Value Line

How can I create Recovery Media, or order from Lenovo

I hope this helps answer your query.

Regards

Hi icubud,

Greetings.

I would be expecting that with a newly installed Windows and drivers back, that the machine is now working. Running hardware test would no longer give the errors you had previously.
