I received the old driver from a colleague of mine. Unfortunately there is no way to get old drivers from Lenovo directly (at least I haven't found something).

You can download the working Realtek Driver here: https://my.hidrive.com/lnk/76Hg1eqY

Link is not working anymore. What driver version this is? Could you possibly resend?

Hello,

You can download the Realtek HD Audio driver v6.0.1.8117 from Lenovo's support web site at the following locations:

Windows 7, Windows 8.1 - https://download.lenovo.com/pccbbs/mobiles/n1ca123w.exe

Windows 10 - https://download.lenovo.com/pccbbs/mobiles/n1ca505w.exe

Re: Realtek Audio Manager crashes after logon

I noticed that when logged in as a Local Admin user the Audio Manager does not crash, but when logged in as a standard user it does. The rollback option worked for us, but we would prefer to be running the latest version for the other fixes it protentially provides.

Re: Realtek Audio Manager crashes after logon

Same issue here. Realtek Audio Manager crashes upon Windows logon.

Could be traced to driver version 6.0.1.8224. In device manager, rollback the driver to older 6.01.8117 and it would work fine.

Another observation is that newer driver 6.0.1.8224 does not crash upon logon when Bluetooth radio was turned off. However, upon turning on Bluetooth radio later, it will crash.

The real annoyance is that everytime Windows Update runs, it would automatically update the older driver to the newer one and here we go again (have to roll it back)...

Thanks Ron - my experience (X1 Carbon Gen 3, Win7, driver 6.0.1.8224) was just like yours, with the Realtek HD Audio Manager consistently crashing at every logon. I wasn't able to find the 6.0.1.8117 driver, but I was able to find the 6.0.1.7746 driver (dated 18-Feb-2016) at https://support.lenovo.com/il/en/downloads/DS103127 (where, curiously, it says it was released "17 Jun 2015".) So far, so good with this .7746 driver.

Lenovo really should pull the buggy .8224 driver, but it's still out there as the latest (at least for X1 Carbon 3rd Gen.)

Re: Realtek Audio Manager crashes after logon - repeatable error sequence

2018-03-17, 3:35 AM

After T440 bios update today [GJET97WW (2.47) Build time: 03/01/2018], I have a repeatable failure sequence for the Realtek HD audio crash. Startup with Bluetooth off results in no Realtek crash error message. Turn on Bluetooth? Realtek crashes with the familiar error box etc.

Trying to reload Realtek HD Audio Manager from Control Panel results in same "Realtek HD Audio Manager has stopped working." error box and details. Bluetooth is set to on at this point. A warm restart causes the Realtek error to occur, but the Bluetooth tray icon does NOT reappear - not in on or off mode. Just gone.

In Task Manager the RAVBg64.EXE (HD Audio background process) and RAVCp64.EXE (Realtek HD Audio Manager) are present in the process list. A shutdown and cold restart displays the ON Bluetooth icon and subsequently the Realtek crash error box. Turning off Bluetooth and a warm restart shows the Bluetooth off icon and no Realtek crash.

Bottom line: you can't have Bluetooth and Realtek HD running at the same time.

Others have mentioned the possible correlation between Bluetooth audio and Realtek crash. I can repeat this failure at will right now. I'm not tech enough to debug the causes but SOMEBODY AT LENOVO ought to get off their butt and fix this. Ridiculous problem to have at this late stage in the product. Sheesh!

I'll try the driver rollback solution ... but really, is this bug necessary?

T440 I7 2.10Ghz
Win 7x64 with all current patches and updates installed.

Realtek info:
Audio Driver Version: 6.0.1.8224
DirectX Version: DirectX 11.0
Audio Controller: HD Audio
Audio Codec: ALC3232
