Recording Issues

2009-08-15, 17:04 PM

Hi all,

I have been attempting to record guitar and vocals at a very amateur level on my W500. I have used the mic in the built in camera, as well as an old condenser mic plugged into the soundcard in the front of the computer. I have attempted to use both the Sound Recorder and Adobe Audition v1.5. In both cases, I get heavy distortion and clipping of the track after about 3 seconds of recording.

I have tried adjusting the levels in the sound options, but to no avail.

I'm running Vista Business x86, the soundcard appears to be "Conexant 20561 Smartaudio HD" which changed from "Conexant High Definition Smartaudio 221" after a driver update (which momentarily seemed to fix the problem...?)

Is it simply that this soundcard is not good? Is it easily replaced? I expect that its integrated into the laptop hardware...

This is a very frustrating issue. Any information, insight, theories, possible solutions would be greatly appreciated!
