Recording through 3.5mm jack on W530

2013-09-03, 15:41 PM

So I know that the 3.5mm jack doubles as a headphone and microphone input (kinda sorta), so I got a splitter so I can plug a stereo cable into that. The trouble I'm having is that I want to record music through this and the only thing I am ever able to pick up is slight pops from my drum machine when I crank the volume all the way up. I have tried recording using this before and it has only been able to pick up any vocals I lay down. Now, when the amp is on and the drum machine is playing a sequence and I go to connect my stereo cable to the mic part of the splitter I hear the drum machine for a split second before it gets cut off. I'd hate to spend a chunk of money on a USB audio interface, so I was wondering if anyone knew how to fix this issue.
