Screen glitching - W540

2020-04-23, 16:39 PM

Hello! Lately I've been having a problem with my laptop. Occasionally the screen will glitch as shown on the image below:

This problem comes and goes, but it's starting to get very annoying. It used to go away fast, but lately this error duration has been increasing, which is worrying. Does anybody have any idea what might be wrong?

Thank you very much in advance,

Does anything need to happen or does it just go away?  What about an external monitor?  Is that OK?

Yes, nothing needs to happen, it just comes and goes. Yes, I have an external monitor and it works just fine.

So I have a new development:

I noticed there was a point where I could apply pressure and the screen would go back to normal every time.

So I disassembled the screen, red circle indicates the point where it's a bit loose and where pressing makes it function normally:

So, I tightened all the screws, but it didn't make much difference. If at all.

In red letters it says "do not touch!", so I don't really know what to do... If anyone could help me I'd appreciate it so much!

Everyone be safe!

It is a failed panel.  There are contact tapes running along the bottom and one side (rows and columns) and they can become detached and they cannot be repaired so that the repair lasts.  You have done most of the work to replace it, but you need a panel.  Sorry.

Personally, and I have seen similar technical issues.  Most real workstations that are designed for function over 'form', have a locking screen lid AND a finger notch in the center. The notch serves to lift the cover evenly from the center w/o twisting the screen/hinges.  With the Lenovo you have to fight to lift the lid evenly.

There are many such fails on the newer Lenovo's that create a delicate machine. Marketing wants to lock the sale on looks . When opening and closing the lid, you need to use two hands and open the lid carefully w/o warping it,
