ThinkPad W510 Ultrabay batteries?

2010-02-08, 9:29 AM

I'm wondering what's the difference between the Ultrabay Batteries that are available for the W510?

I've been told that the Ultrabay slot is supposed to be identical with the one on my current T400s, making it the same as the one we've got on the T400 and T500 as well?

In other words I could still continue using my ThinkPad Advanced Ultrabay Battery II (#43R9250)

But what are the difference between my current, and the newer ones;

i don't think the W510 or the T510 are capable of using ultrabay battery anymore, as the ultrabay battery connector is no longer there. There is the 27++ battery for the W510 if you need more battery time, which is a nine cell rather than the 3 cells used in the ultrabay battery.

Hmm, that is for sure a very tiny picture..

Is that some kind of battery you mount beneath the whole machine, using the dock-port or something?

Or is it supposed to be mounted as a regular battery, simply replacing the normal battery?

As the W510 ships with 9cell, that would be rather useless wouldn't it?

If it's mounted under it, wouldn't it make the machine rather huge?

The thing that makes the Ultrabay batteries so genius is the added battery, without really making the machine bigger nor heavier!

it is added under the machine, like what is available on the HP elitebook.. i am not sure why the ultrabay battery option is no longer available. Probably due to the fact that it is too expensive for the amount of battery time it offers.

the only new thinkpad that still uses the ultrabay battery is the T410s.

this is the actual review of the battery.
