Re: ThinkPad W541 weird noise

Hi ThinkPadUserX,

I think the issue might be with the FAN only, maybe it’s not fitted properly. Please contact the service center once again and get it fixed.

Best regards,

Hemanth Kumar

Hi again, yeah I agree, I compared the sound with an old external laptop cooler, and the sound is similar. But I still don't quite understand the reason behind the variation of the intensity of the sound depending what the screen is displaying. Plus, the fan is completely replaced with a new one while the problem persists. But any how, I have lodged another service request,

Does the noise change based on the backlight brightness?

Re: ThinkPad W541 weird noise

Hi, I have been experiencing similar issue in my ThinkPad W541. My machine makes noise cause by vibration of a thin prastic panel between the keyword and display. It usually happnes when I am doing serious computationally intensive work. The cause seems to be the poor design of the chassis, which allows the part loose and vibtrating when the machine is heated up by the CPU. It is not loud but annoying enoug.
