ThinkPadp15 G-1 connect-disconnect while using HDMI cable with Dell S2421HN

Hello Everyone,

I have Lenovo ThinkPad Gen-1 with NVidia Quadro T2000, for this I have purchased Dell S 2421HN monitor with(with AMD freesync & 75HZ refresh rate if we have AMD graphics card).  I am connoting Monitor with Laptop Via HDMI cable(v1.2).

on 1st day when I have connected my monitor with Laptop Using HDMI cable it was working fine. but suddenly from 2nd day my monitor keeps on connecting & disconnecting when I start my monitor & laptop in morning. timing for connecting disconnecting is about every 30-32 sec. this happens about 1-2 hour and then it stops. I have also checked HDMI cable with Other Dell Laptop I have it works fine. also checked with HP CPU I have it works fine with Dell S2421HN monitors.

also tried changing HDMI cable and HDMI port of monitor but problem is still there.  i have tried changing refresh rate to 59Hz, does not work for me.

if anyone has solution please let me know.

Thank you

Re:ThinkPadp15 G-1 connect-disconnect while using HDMI cable with Dell S2421HN

Hi Vishal Mehta,

Welcome to the Community Forums

Try the following:

Step 1. Checking Power Management.

- Press the Windows key + X and select "Device Manager"
- Expand "Displays/Monitors"
- Right click the device in question.
- Select "Power Management" tab.

- Uncheck "Allow the computer to turn this device off to save power"

In the event this doesn't help solve the issue, continue below:

Step 2. Static Discharge
- Remove all cables attached to the laptop (ac adapter/power, hdmi, external mouse/keyboard, etc)
- Ensure device is switched OFF
- Hold down power button for 60 seconds
- Re-attach all cables
- Connect the AC Adapter, then let the device charge for about 2 minutes (if it does) then start up as usual.
- Try this a couple of times in case it doesn't solve the issue the first time (2-3)

Step 3. BIOS Load Default Settings.
- Press the power button to completely shut down the unit.
- Press the F1 or F2 (FN+F1 or F2) repeatedly on startup to enter BIOS.
- Navigate to the "Restart" tab
- Press "Load Default Settings"
- Save & Exit changes or F10.

Step 4. System Board Updates.

Make sure you have the newest BIOS and Chipset drivers for your device:
You can find and install the newest drivers from the Lenovo Support Page
Just plot in the serial number of the device, click the search icon and select your device, then head to Drivers & Software, select Manual Update, then select the BIOS and Chipset section
Right click the files in question and select "Run as Administrator".
**Note: Make sure the AC adapter is connected and that you have at least 30% battery charge when performing BIOS updates. Do not turn off the device while the BIOS update is running as this can cause serious damage to the motherboard and prevent the device from functioning properly or at all.

Regards

Re:ThinkPadp15 G-1 connect-disconnect while using HDMI cable with Dell S2421HN

Hello,

I do not have a ThinkPad P15 Gen 1 or Dell S2421HN monitor, but from looking at the specs on the monitor, it appears to have an HDMI ver. 1.4 port.

Perhaps using a HDMI ver. 1.4 (or newer) cable instead of the ver. 1.2 one would make a difference.  The current version of the HDMI spec is version 2.1.
