Thinkpad P17 no Xeon 10885 option!

2020-09-16, 19:21 PM

Why there is no option for Intel® Xeon® W-10885M Processor with vPro™ (2.40 GHz, up to 5.30 GHz with Turbo Boost, 8 Cores, 16 Threads, 16 MB Cache) in newly released THINKPAD P17 (unlike P15, which does have an option with RTX 5000 GPU).

Also, why strangely there is no option for custom building P17?

The platform spec does list that CPU.  On new products, all configurations are not always available until later.

There's no i9 option yet either, but the higher end CPU models will be added later. Was the same when P72 and 73 were released.

I think they are still trying to offload the old P73s.

Don't know why I'm still checking for them, the reduction to only 2x M.2 storage bays was a dealbreaker for me, I'm waiting on delivery of a Dell 7750 with almost identical spec, but it has 4x storage bays ;)

well, daughter graphics card and better thermal management are the two crucial upgrades in P17 which is tempting me to go for Lenovo. Hopefully, this feature would potentially make the system still relevant when Nvidia will launch a new RTX graphics card. Will be interesting to know how Dell 7750 fares through in different use case scenarios though. Do post your reviews on Dell once you receive the system. It will greatly help people in making a wise decision.

Customization options are available for the P17 as of today, including the Xeon® W-10885M.
